Default will it fit?

I've got a 96 3.8 mustang and I was wandering if a 8.8 rear with 3.73 gears and limited slip diferential from a ford explorer would be able to work on my car I might be able to get one pretty cheap

It's more than likely not going to have to same suspension pick-up point as a mustang, but if you want to cut the axel tubes down bare and then weld the brackets thats fine, and you'd need to check the overall width. Thats the only problems I can think of and I could be wrong on the mounting points, just make sure you check.

I found one on craigslist near me that I'm going to try and get for 100. As far as welding any new suspension points that's no problem my stepdad can do that easy. Any other imputs I would appreciate I will be checking back while I'm trying to work it out. The limited slip, is that going to make both sides spin while I'm standing still? I was laughed at when only one tire was smoking. And it was by a chick that lives across the street from me. She's got a 98 gt with 4.10 gears and t-loc. How bad is that!

The explorer ones are not the correct width and do not have the same suspension points so it will not just bolt in unlike the cobra (94-98 cars) and all GT's (94-04).

It will bolt in, however it will be short on both sides. The foxes rear ends are shorter then 96-98 cars, and even shorter then 99-04 cars.

Oh well he sold it aleady. So I should look for a gt 94-04 or a cobra 94-98. I'll keep an eye on it. What is the stock gears on a gt. Is 8.8 standard?
