Default Gear question

I have been told that it would be better to put 3.73 gears on a manual transmission, and 4.10 on automatic. My question is can you put 3.73 gears on a automatic.

I did when I had my v6. Go with the 4:10 gears though.

i have a 5 speed 2001 v6. i think im going to go with 3.73 but what is the big difference between 3.73 and 4.10, those two seem to be the most popular ratios.

Its pretty much your only choices on the v6's 7.5" rear end. The big difference is what speed you can get to in 4th gear and cruising on the highway. I would not pick a gear until I know around what my car traps and then work on a gear that optimizes that setup. But, I'm a hardcore street/strip guy.

pardon my ignorance here...but what does the 7.5/8.8 designation on the rear ends signify?

ring gear diameter. v6 cars come with a 7.5" rear and v8 cars come with a 8.8".

get 4.10 for auto and 3.73 for stick

you can get ethier or but 4.10 gears FTW!!!!!

also if you plan on getting a Supercharger or Turbo in the near future go with 3.73 gears but never fear 4.10 gears manye
