exhaust brands
ok well i've been asking around and looking at different cat backs and what not...and i figured i would ask you guys what your thoughts were. im looking for a low rumble sound at idle...and the revv and take off, as long as it doesnt sound really high/japaneseish then i'd be fine
so what would be the type that would produce this kind of sound?

who has glasspacks installed? i was thinking of a tru dual with a cherry bomb glasspack on each side. just run two pipes straight from the converters back with a set of glasspacks. it's hard to really judge what youtube clips would really sound like because of the variations of peoples equipment they are using to take the videos. are they going to make it obnoxiously loud because i don't want that.

If you want something deep I would stick with a chambered muffler like MAC.
Here is a car with a simple MAC muffler swap out. I think it sounds pretty darn good.

I believe mine had the three inch tips... not sure though. What I do recomend is getting the first one, the stainless steel. Can't go wrong with that, and don't have to worry about them rusting. Mine showed rust after about a year (mac), was able to get it off with compound and steel wool. But my stainless tips on my GT (magnaflow) are still shiny. If you can pony up the extra money I recommend the stainless MAC.

on that note...looking at the website theyhave a list of exhausts for the 99-04 v6's and a seperate one for the gt's. the stainless steel one is a different product number for the v6 and for the gt...whats the difference?

Your V6 has a downpipe that connects into one tube, known as a Y pipe. The V6 exhaust from MAC will attach to that Y and split it back into two pipes. The GT mustangs have downpipes that are in the shape of an H or an X, so there is no need to split anything, and they just connect to the bottom leads on the X or H. This is one of the reasons why a catback does not gain you much HP on a v6, because there is a point of restriction just before the catback. Either way, the car will sounds tons better with the MAC catback.

yeah i was planning on doing the v6 adaptor that they have on this site so that i would be able to get rid of the y pipe..the thing im confused about with those last two links i put up was that they were both true dual...the v6 one was the exact same as the gt they just had different product numbers so i was confused
lol

hrm, I have not used it myself, but I do not believe that doing the Y pipe adapter then a GT catback will give you any more gains than simply doing a catback designed for your car. It sure will cost more. I think you would really use that adapter if you had or wanted a catback they only made for the GT.
Or, spend the extra 50 bux on the pypes off road X pipe for the six, that will eliminate the need for the adapter, make install easier (no cutting/welding) and give you a bump in horsepower, while also making your exhaust louder. Sounds like a Win to me.

i thought that x's werent good for 6'ers?
but anyway i am really in it more for the sound/look than hp gain since everything i've heard is that it will be a very minimal gain if at all no matter what i do

X,H, doesnt really matter. That adapter will basically make you have an H pipe when installed. The benefit of that X pipe would be the elimination of the cats...

x's aren't bad for sixers, but they're pretty pointless because it's an even firing engine and whatnot. Something to know about the pypes off-road x (or any "off-road"/x) pipes, they're not catted. So if you've got emissions, you will fail. The good thing about bolt-on exhausts like that is that you can put stock parts back on for emissions testing, then after replace is with the off-road stuff.

what are you talking about? I paid $500 for parts and labor for my exhaust that's about what your going to pay for any exhaust set up.
#25
wow really? the only place i could find them online it was like 800 bucks
#26
just go to your local exhaust shop and get a quote thats what i did. I ended up going to at least 3 till i found a good one. IMO the exhaust shops that look beat down do the best jobs and are a lot cheaper.
#27
ah ok good idea lol...im off for thanksgiving now and dont have to work till friday so i guess i'll go check tomorrow around town
#28
just make sure you get more than one price quote. I remember my first place I went to all they wanted to do was make a sale and they didnt really know what they were talking about and to top it all off they wanted twice as much as the place i had the work done at.
#29
if im going this route...is there any benefit to having a mid pipe at all or should i just go with two pipes straight back from the headers without crossing?
#30
You have to have a crossover, just has to do with the timing of the cylinder firing. It helps equalize pressure across the system by moving exhaust gasses from one side to the other when one side isn't firing. Unless there is something weird about the firing order of the six?
