Dunno, I'm 19, had the mustang for 2 years now.. wrecked it once...new suspension and rear end was about 7 grand, and a thousand dollar deductible out of my pocket.. wasn't fun at all.. and i was going to work that day
Not to mention, the wonderful way my insurance sky rocketed...
But hell, I think now I'll give even a lightly modded GT a run for its money.. still won't do it on a street though, I'd hate to run over future mustang enthusiast little timmy or smack into the back of some ridiculously large lifted truck...
Street racing isn't much to brag about, theres nothing in it, you can't really take a whole lot of pride in it, and its a dangerous thing.. I'd much rather be at a track, get my timeslip, and rub it in peoples faces..
I'm all for opening it up on a empty freeway late at night.. not too much..but..here in so cal..everyone drives 90...so..

If you want the rush of racing and you want guys here to respect you for it find a group near you that meets and does auto crosses it may seem a little expensive at first after you do it once you will probably be hooked and it will be totally worth it for you. In autoX horse power matters but I beat a guy in a 320hp 400 f/lb volvo in my 150hp 215 f/lb mustang.

I'm telling you from experience I did a drag in a 400whp camaro and that does not even compare to the amount of fun I have autoxing my little sixer.
Drag race = a few secs of raw power in a straight line (depends on the car) compared to a miniute or more (on a good track) of crazy turns bursts of acceleration and sudden stops in an autoX

actually the group by me is planning an event at a drag strip that will use the strip as the beginning of the course so they will take our 1/4 mile time and then we keep going for the rest of the track it's like a 2 for 1 and the entry cost is supposed to be under 50$ and we get 3 or 4 runs.

I just turned 17 a bit over a month ago and i guess i can relate a bit more to ya'll . The thing about street racing is one way or another it costs $ to do it. Either you waste gas, get in an accident, blow something in your engine, wear out your tires, or luckout and have a little pebble strike your windshield at 90mph. Personally, i try to stay away from it for those reasons. also, because i know whats outhere. i.e. cops, faster cars, other people. I wouldnt want to be the kid who goes to jail for racing in a v6 car...its not my thing..
but idk man, whatever works for you...i guess you have to learn to value your car and yourself a bit more to put racing out of your mind. Im not gonna say that i dontspeed or take a risk everynow and then, but i do do it where im safe. my2cents

i just got my 02 mustang(v6) and my buddy got an 06 monte carlo(N/A v6) and we decided to see who was faster on interstate 43. we ended up not being able to race because of traffic but still had some fun however i was flying up a hill in the passing lane getting ready to pass my buddy when he had slow done for an 05+ gt. i slowed down let my buddy get in my lane and we both pass the gt and i dont think the he stomped on it but he got pissed and threw on his high beams and i took off. I dont know anything about that gen of mustang but did i outrun this gt in an v6. the only mod i have is a cai. i really feel dumb asking this because he probaly didnt even try but i kno if i was him i would have gunned it
Most street races are won in the first 60 to 100 Ft. Or 2 or 3 gears.

Ok, here's a scenario. You 2 guys fly by me on the highway and call it a win. Weeee. Then let's get to the first stop light. I have a stock 04 GT. U 2 guys are gonna be hearing a 1st gear chirp, then a big *** 2nd gear squeel, then a nice fat 3rd gear chirp all while seeing my chrome Mustang bumper inserts, then I let off and you go flying by, Is that a win? No, because I was not stupid enough to excced the speed limit by that much. You heard the power of the GT, not that impressive by most of the guys on this forum, but You would have been whooped to at the very least a few miles over any speed limit for that road. And, Yes even with my stock GT I would have walked you past 140 miles per hour..

my mpg cuts in half when i step on it. and we dont like wasting our gas on slow sixxers, especially shitty GM monter carlos...

You're still a little too cocky for a stock gt bud.

"Otherwise, we would all still be pooping our diapers....after all, we were all babies once too."
hahaha, great.
for some reason i just read this whole page...funny stuff. but yeah, dont fly around town or you get pulled over and get large speeding tickets/ lose your license, then you wont be driving your stang around, or have the money to mod it!
