For a significant gain? Ya.

What is it that you're trying to do? I think this has been covered by the last..two hundred threads or so on what will actually give your v6 some real power..

What are your goals for your mustang?

Honestly you will not get your stang over 200rwhp without spending some good cash. Bolts on(aka cold air intake, exhaust, under drive pulleys, throttle body, headers, tuner) will not get your 200 no matter what anyone says. The best way to get over 200rwhp would find a supercharger kit, it will cost but can put you at 250-260rwhp(since you are a single port), if you did a split port swap(swap the intakes from a 99+ stang, also maybe the heads(not sure if this was changed, I know the cam is different but not sure about the heads) good for 40~ hp) then you could see 275-300rwhp out of a supercharger.

You could also do a supersix motorsports package(cams, P&P heads, P&P intakes) and you could see 220-230rwhp with full bolt ons.

no such thing as cheap hp. If you don't want to buy a supercharger then sell the six and use the cash to put toward a GT

I only have a cold air intake and dual exhaust. I never really dived into the motor and spent money on visual mods instead. I am currently looking for a cobra since I feel that spending 3-4k on a supercharger to only get me to 275-300rwhp isn't worth it to me, when I can hit that with bolt on's on a cobra and the cobra has more build potential for the same mods. That is just me though, there are plenty of hard core V6 guys out there that have gotten some awesome V6 cars. One guy on this forum has a boosted and built 6, running 15psi and pushing 430rwhp.

Best supercharger to go with would be procharger or vortech.

Supercharger runs off your serpintine belt system and creates boost as rpms increase. Turbos create boost from rpms as more exhaust gas is expelled into them(from your headers, they are not belt driven) they spin faster creating boost, thus putting more air into your motor. It is obviously more complex then this but that is a very basic understanding of them.

If you want a supercharger for cheap you can find m90 kits right off t-bird supercoupes that can be had for a grand or less I'm not sure what kind of power they make though.... I have been watching them on ebay

i would look into a head, cam, and intake upgrade. the heads on our 3.8L (94-98) were single port. if you upgrade to split port, that alone is ~50 crank HP. cam and intake will nicely compliment that upgrade, and with the right tune you can get close to 200 HP. this upgrade will also cost (in parts) about 3 grand as well. don't forget labor prices.

if you want to eventually go with a blower, for your engine you should do this first. also, with a blower, you may have to upgrade your fuel system too, so don't think its just a slap it on kind of job.

what do you have done so far? if you want your car to be a little quicker, i'd go with gears in the interim while you save up on this.

Dude sell your car. You can find a 94-98 GT for like practically nothing. Start there or if you have the money spring for a 99-04 GT. They are relatively cheap.

.......next time u go shopping im comming along...........

as for cheep power, its true, it doesnt exist. biggest gains would probably be a turbo. not a s/c. the thing with turbo is that it has a potential to fail more then the sc and if installing yourself its a bitch to do. commin from some1 with a six....if the power means that much to you, get a fox body GT or cobra. you will not find another mustang with more hp, kick in the ***, neck jerking thrill of a ride then a good old fox. if your willing to spend money, ANY car can be fast as hell. this just means that an already fast car has one hell of a good shot.

If you want cheap power then you might want to include nitrous instead of not including it. Otherwise You can do the split port swap which is heads, intake setup from 99-04 v6 car to your 94-98 v6 car. This is a good upgrade for some power. You really have alot of options to go about this so search around and read up and then make a plan.

Yeah you can get everything that you need for a split port conversion from supersixmotorsports.com for $800 then you would have 190 at the crank even without any other mods. If you get 4.10's after that then you can run with the v6 camaros and fireturds cause you will have almost the same hp but less weight and better gearing.

4.2L swap....find one for cheap and swap it in. will also up the potential of what you can do.

they range from 500-2k for an engine just keep an eye out. that will give you the most gain/potential for the money.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN SUPERCHARGER AND TURBO CHARGER
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wile they both are forms of forced induction, they accomplish it in different ways.

Superchargers use a pulley belt to spin a turbine like thing to suck in air and shove it into the engine.

Turbochargers are the same thing but spun using the exhaust to spin it and route the new air back up into the intake. th only problem is turbo lag.

Cheap and HP should really not be mentioned in the same sentence, however, especially for a V-6, if a blower is not in your budget and you don't want nitrous, the biggest bang for the buck is exhaust and gears.

Gears, do not add hp, but they will add hp equivalent. You need to ask yourself, do you want hp, or do you want to make the car accelerate faster? Gears do the later.
