Corvette rear-ends
I read in a MMFF article that the LS1 corvettes come stock with a 7.5 rear. This seems small for the power they put out. Is this true, if so is it possible that the 7.5 is a V6 stang can handle some serious power? If not then what are the main differences.

irrelevant comparison. the v6 is not for power so why stick extra money into the rear end and make it strong? that would be throwing money out the window for no reason. Besides... the corvette doesnt use a live axle setup, it has a Dana IRS setup which blows the cobra irs out of the water.

completely different rear... vette = IRS vettes leave no room for anything... GM kept it lightwieght and used a smaller rear... and so it would fit... you are comparing two completey different cars... its like comparing your left shoe to your left testicle |
+2 to that. the inch size is only a measurement of the ring gear diameter. It's not a measurement of strength.
The vette IRS is a neat thing. The car was built around it, instead of the IRS being built around the car like the IRS cobras. If you want to beat on a ford live axle, then build up a 8.8, or upgrade all the way to the nearly unbreakable Ford 9". |
