The whistle is normal for most, but my intake is more of a deep sucking sound than it is a whistle, but mine is in the fenderwell and not in the engine compartment...

Just got one off of ebay, it's similar to the one that Mustang Tuning sells (the out of stock, 73$ one), which has the filter sit inside the fender well, doesn't get as much air as the one in the engine compartment does, but it's alot cooler than the air in the engine compartment..it was 25$, heh. But uh, an exhaust should help you with your sound issue...you can get a direct Y pipe attachment dual exhaust made by MAC for about 320$, which should get you a decent sound, but if you wanted to get a true dual you can buy an H pipe and a GT catback, a lot of possibilities.

Is it a circular, thin filter? I saw something like that in a diff car's engine..looks like it attached behind the MAF.

MY CAI is the complete intake pipe with a big cone filter. It helps that I have 340hp so it sucks real hard. I see nothing wrong with just getting a noisy CAI not everyone wants to have a loud exhaust which cannot be shut off. At least with a CAI as long as you dont go WOT it will not be heard, nothing rice about that just an alternative to an exhaust.

If you want a loud exhaust go with the kit to convert to GT exhaust outlets (http://www.mustangtuning.com/v6duexadkit1.html) then buy yourself some SLP Pro-flo Loudmouths. I'm guessing if you've got a nice CAI and a little more power than the average sixer, you'll have a pretty nice sounding ride.

check all your connections...hoses, clamps etc.

If you had your key on listening to the radio or something while you were installing it, your battery could be weak.
