Default SCT Tune

Ok, I just got my tuner in the mail and installed the tune this evening. After driving it, it wasnt really as different as i expected it to be. I mean i could def tell the shifts were different, especially when i got on it and spun my tires shifting gears. My car is a 2001 automatic v6 with true dual flowmasters, K&N Filter, no air silencer. But, I cant really tell whether or not i like how it drives. It seems almost as if it is trying too hard to shift hard, if that makes sense. Almost like if it were a manual, it woudl be liek popping the clutch HUGE after every shift. Also, I experienced some pretty hefty downshifts while driving through town. Should this be happening? I installed everything the way it said. Took out the electric fan and fuel pump fuses, didnt disconnect the cord while downloading, put the fuses back in when done. Any advice?

I can tell you from personal experience that increased line pressure to firm up shifts= ****ed up tranny. My new tuner doesn't do it because it has caused some problems in many cars. I took out my old chip after I had to get a brand new tranny and my new one just has stock line pressure stock everything as far as tranny goes. If you want firmer shifts get a street/strip valve body from PA.

Oh and why did you get a tuner your mods are way too simple right now for one.

Well, idk, I figured that the tuner would still help. Not to mention that many other ppl had ordered it with the same or less mods than me. So, what do I do now? Can I adjust the pressure? Should I uninstall the tune?

I'm sure you can just adjust the shift firmness.

increasing line pressure will wear your front pump out and it will kill your tranny, run stock line pressure. Trust me i have had a few 4r70w's in my f150.

I like the tranny shifts the way they are on the way up. However, on the way down when my cars speed is decreasing from about 35 miles per hour, it downshifts REALLY HARD. That is the only downshift that seems to be abnormally hard, and im not sure whether its going from 3 to 2 or 4 to 3. I can adjust the shift pressures correct? If so, what should I do?

This is my post from the SCT forum: http://www.sctflash.com/forum/showth...7540#post27540

I couldn't get just downshift pressures. I could only adjust shift pressures in general.
I changed the 1-2 shift pressure to -15%
I changed the 2-3 shift pressure to -10%
I changed the 3-4 shift pressure to -25%

I changed the timing a little, because it seemed as if it shifted out of 1st too soon. After changing the timing, i still couldnt really tell much of a difference.
I changed the 1-2 shift time to +4 miles per hour
I changed the 3-4 shift time to -1 miles per hour to try to compensate for the hard downshift. Should I change that shift point any more?

After driving around, testing it out, I noticed that it only downshifts really hard if I have overdrive on. When i turn o/d off, it seems to downshift fine. I just don't want to drive on the highway without overdrive because it keeps the RPM's too high.

Any suggestions on anything else to change? Should I be able to adjust the downshift times by themselves?

Thanks, Evan

Why am I shifting out of 1st at like 5 miles per hour? Then the RPMs in 2nd are so low i have no power for a couple secs

Why am I downshifting so hard from 4 to 3, but only when overdrive is on?

Somebody please help :wallbash:

i actually have just a SCT chip that firmed up the shift points and it does not kill the tranny...unless u put them too hard...actually i would like to kill my tranny so i can get a manual but i am not trying to...

If you tuned it to the SCT spec then you will not hurt your tranny very much...the shift points help out alot...i mean its not gonna gain you 20hp just free up a few ponies from the auto...

and yes mine downshifts pretty harsh when braking or just slowing down without braking...and i now spin tires from 1st to 2nd (well not anymore that i have better traction with the 275's but with the stock wheels and tires i patched)

Well, my car only downshifts really hard when o/d is turned on.

Also, does yours not shift out of 1st extremely early? You might have to listen/feel closely to notice when taking off from a complete stop...

idk if my tune is messed up or something?

incrasing line pressure over stock will work the pump harder and shorten its life, there is nothing to argu over that. Trust me i have had many 4r70w's and its the same with any other auto tranny.

nope your tune is not messed up...

mine does the damn thing if you just accelerate lightly and dont get on it then mine will shift around 2500 or less...and it takes alot of the pedal to downshift and speed up...i dont like my auto but i will live with it til i can get a 5speed

I chirp the tires(well the tire) when going to 3rd at all out when i shift at redline. But when I get the posi I prolly ain't event gonna spin them going into second so buy buy spining.

And my car is chipped by my dad whos a ford tech and used all of the ford crap to change all of the parameters or some crap like that and its made right now to run on premium gas which sucks right now because its so costly. I'm hoping to have him change that back to save me some money untill I get some more mods. So far I have about a grand but I'm still thinking about what I want to do next.

with bad tires and only one wheel spinning it is possible.

seriously with the tires. These sumis suck some times. I swear the 245/45/17 goodyear eagles had more grip. Sometimes in the rain it scares me:surrender
