Default yea

here is a site that walks you through it and gives you info on it. You should come out with 2-3 extra hp and a slightly deeper exhaust note... I did it on my 1997 V6 rumor says you lose power on sixers but i think the more the engine can breath cant rob power

There are about 50 active posts on this subject alone. Yes, simple free mod. Can't go wrong, and all you need is a socket wrench... or atleast my 4.6 did... the walkthrough would be a nice reed just incase you are afraid of ripping anything. Do it when you engine is comletely cool or ou run the risk of hurting not only yourself but melting your air intake...

I just did the removal with no tools of any kind. just grabbed that thing and yanked it out...it fought hard and lost.

yea i just took it out a few minutes ago and there is definitely a slight, but noticeably deeper tone to the engine. the site was good though just to make sure that there was nothing there to accidentaly pull free in the process. i used the wrench and took the whole thing out, which was just as easy
