Exclamation Clearance ?

I will soon be installing some H and R SS springs. I also want to invest in wheels about 10 inches wide. Now my question is would 18" or 20" rims be better for performance, and last question is would 20"x10" rims with a 2" drop fit without rubbing? If anyone can answer these questions I would appreciate it. If this matters at all... I mainly drive canyons, and this is what the question relates to.

First, you failed to tell us what car/year/trim so you'll get zero good answers. Still, the larger the wheel the slower you'll be. More rotating mass = less power to the ground. I will be personally forced to laugh heartily at you if you put 20's on a <05 car.

Stop with 18's on a 94-04.

20's are for bling not performance, even if Saleen uses them... with that said, 20's do look nice on 05 up. Personally, I'd go with 18's, though.

Thanks for the advice... yeah after some thought I think 18's would be best. I am going to go with a set of steeda's 18x9.5.

Thanks.

+1 to the cadre of those rescued from $300 a copy tires.

Seriously... my taurus uses 70-80 dollar a piece tires on 16" wheels. My stang uses $120-200 skins and that's with a modest 17x9. 18x9.5 will be 145-270 bucks each. 20's start at about 220 each. Imagine blowing a THOUSAND dollars every 6 months because your tires are giant rubber bands that only get 12K miles before they're toast.

edit: but yeah... 20's do look cool on 05+

To tell you the truth, that would mean alot less driving, which is bad news because I love starting up my car and hearing that rumble from my exaust.

w00t. I've stayed with 17's so far cuz I can still get decent skins for 120 bucks a copy. Makes performance more affordable.

I myself have found myself wanting bigger rims and tires, yet after you think about it, 17's are the best maybe 18's to go with. Tires are reasonable and there are tons of rim choices. I have Hankooks after giving a big boot to the BFG KDWS I had prior. I actually think too much rim and tire look like a damn hot-wheels car gone bad.

What do you guys think about The Pentar rims by Steeda in Black. I am only asking because my car is a light metallic blue, similar to sky blue, it's called windveil blue., and I don't know if black would be too much for the paint. I plan on adding carbon fiber hood, trunk, and spoiler, which are all black, but I am still in question about the rims. The rims are on www.steeda.com. Do you think that my planned setup will look okay or do you think that another color would be best?

negative on the CF... that's gunna look hella ricey as it is. Paint the hood and trunk (and maybe the spoiler depending on which one you're getting).

the rims will set it off probably well enough by themselves. I think a pair of shelby stripes in black would probably make that even better... maybe tinted windows and then just call it and day. Nice a clean.

The reason for the carbon fiber is for weight reduction...What do you recommend for shedding some weight????

Rear seat delete, taking out spare and jack, tubular k-member with coil-over setup, rear coil-over, relocate your battery are just a few things but dont strip it out or use carbon mainly because too many of one of our rivals (imports) do this sort of thing. It would look ok to maybe get a carbon hood but with your color I wouldnt. Like redneck said maybe black shelby stripes, dark tint, lower it, and definitely 20"s for 05-07. Every 05-07 that I have seen looks so good with 20"s, 8.5"s in the front and 10"s in the rear. If you are ever that concerned about track times or performance it will probably a 15" anyways. good luck!

get the CF if you need to lose that much weight but please just paint them. unpainted CF body panels are defined as rice by the International Auto Ricers Union. We're not allowed to use their display pattern. You could always have the shelby stripes show the carbon fibre (through a hella thick clear coat), then have a CF pattern painted on the roof, and continue the pattern showing on the trunk and maybe even the wing.

changing to race seats, removing rear seats, swapping to coil over, tubular control arms, ac delete, plastic side windows, etc... are all good ways to drop weight. CF is another but usually ends up ugly as sin cuz you can still see it.

lose weight, not style
