Nothing wrong with an auto. Throw in a shift kit and stall converter, your good to go.
I plan on doing those plus some 373's in mine.
Should more than make up any "loss" from not having a stick in most cases.
Besides, talk to any 'old timers' a modern manual takes no skill compared to the older muscle cars. thsoe things were freakin sensitive and very easy to stall (at least my dad's '78 280z heh) the car's CPU helps out a lot these days.
Driving a stick can be fun, but 99.99% of the time i'm just doing daily driving, not racing, so the auto just makes more sense for me. If i had nice open, traffic less highways, sure a manual would be nice :-)

i like my aod it gets me a-b just like a manual but i dant have to worry about not being in gear after being at a traffic light for a long time. done it a few times in the crx "pos". rohnert park is a land of fine women i worked at "in-n-out burger" there a few times good times good times. boy do i miss those days back at home in the bay area. autos will kill any stick in bracket racing.

when i got there they had 2 GT's left, both Auto. They only manuals they had were the V6's, and i wasnt gonna buy a V6 if i could get a V8.
I figured i'd be fine with an auto, even tho ive only driven stick in the past.
I'd rather have an Auto V8 than Manual V6.
Id rather even more to have a Manual V8.
I miss the shifter and clutch way more than i thought i would.

Maybe they have auto's so they can kick the snot out of the "real racers" with manuals. Nothing beats the look on manual owners faces when they find out my car has a stock motor and an automatic tranny after I've just wasted them.

Actually I beat manual cars with more mod's than mine every time I go to the track. Look at my times, I run 12.80's with only 251 rwhp. I beat 96 -01 Cobra's and Mach one's not to mention LS1's.
I have been drag racing since 1976 and automatic cars have always ruled the streets and strips. I grew up in the glory days of the muscle car and the automatics cars were always faster. They are easier to launch and are more consistant.

Stock would be a drivers race, an auto will not launch near as hard as a manual stock. But a stock p.i. head 99-04 auto will hardly spin the tires so it will have a traction advantage. With a good driver the manual should win by a couple of car lengths everytime. In real life on street tires I have never lost to a manual GT at the track. They simply can't hook well enough on street tires. Most of the GT's I have raced are not stock so I can't give you an instance when I ran stock agaisnt a stock manual car. I did alot of research before deciding on my automatic. Contrary to what most GT owners think it is easier to make a automatic fast than a manual. We don't have to worry about blowing up our rear ends like the manuals cars do. The additional 3-5 percent of power loss of an automatic is made up by the ease of launching and the consistancy of shifting. I belong to several online forums and race alot. I see many 265-285 hp manuals that I can whip with 250 hp.

People who don't have a fast car and talk crap are one of my pet peeves.

I will admit autos are more consistent but by any means not faster! I have been beat by many autos because I've had tractions problems, not shifting right and so forth! I do think a well built autos are much better for track use but I love shifting my car!

auto's arent that bad, if you dont like a auto then dont get one, simple as that. with mine being tuned I have beatin my friends primarily stock 03 gt 5spd. now a couple more tweaks and a tq converter, tranny cooler I will be fine. Yeah its fun shifting but it gets boring after going through stop and go traffic everyday to work

the starter of this thread is an idiot. you dont just stomp and go. you lock in the brake, bring up stall speed, launch, and shift, i just dont like stomping pedals around like a little kid. and anyway, i bet my times get more consinstant and the autos handle a boatload more power. why buy a muscle car and keep it slow?

also...if you drove something faster than a 96 stang (turd) you would realize the potential of an auto. but for you, your car is such a dud that you look for any excitement you can get, whether its shifting gears, or changing cd's while racing. i guess pressing a clutch takes the attention off of the other car leaving you

Part of me wants an auto, cuz in rush hour traffic I hate the whole clutch procedure...but at the same time I enjoy a manual. Just the whole shifting gears thing gives me an exhillaration and a rush.

put your MV motor, Procharger, 4R70W, drag suspension, built rear, etc in a 2002 manual gt and lets see who wins at the strip... i dont see many autos in the NHRA or Pro drag races, they prefer manual for a reason....hate to say it but id rather go rice the go auto
iv drivin a 2000 auto gt = not fun wanted to fall asleep at the wheel

yeah i think you are correct this never would have been a thread if he wasn't a ricer at heart bottom line is this is dumb they both have there advantages and disadvantages you just have to choose which you prefer

gotta say i love sticks for the feel of TOTAL shifting control over an auto...but autos have pluses too....no clutches to wear, total consistency, they're programmable.....it's all personal pref
plus someday you'll be beaten by an auto so live with it
and whoever said JOhn Force prefers an auto your'e a f'ing idiot.....first off the pro's "autos" have manual valvebodies, controlled and monitored by CPUs and they have all of like 3-5 seconds to shift going 200 mph, so it's impossible to shift like a manual trans
