Default Professional Computer Geeks.. Present for you.

hey guys...

This is an offer for professional computer geeks only. Joe blow... sorry you don't get to play.

Yes, you read right. I have a present for you professional sysadmins, programmers, electrical engineers, DBA's, etc...

You see I'm a sysadmin and in my day to day life it's impossible to find the spot in any technical book (read O'Reilly books) when I need it besides the fact that the O'Reilly books are all heavy as hell and nobody but companies can afford a full collection (well...I have a full collection but I'm strange). What do you do when you need just 1 bit of info really fast and don't have the book or the time to dig through paper copies?

With that in mind I've put together a webified compilation of 80 of their best and most popular books into a single giant portable web site. If you'd like to see it shoot me a PM. The site is 205MB zipped and 550MB extracted and can be burned to a CD-ROM. All you have to do to publish it to your home network or work intranet is to place it in a web accessible folder and set any permissions required. It'll work on Windows IIS servers and any Apache/Tux/etc... UNIX based web server and is full of pretty clean but unfortunately kind of bulky HTML. You don't even need a web server to use it. Just insert the cd, open the index.html and you're surfing a web site on your local system.

Areas covered are: (at least 4 books per subject)
Java
Java in the Enterprise
Perl
Perl 2
Perl 3
TCP/IP
TCP/IP 2
Unix 2.1
WWW
Web Design Bookshelf
Oracle PL/SQL
Linux and Open Source
The XML CD Bookshelf

If some geek would like to see a copy, please let me know via PM.

Gotta say thanks to the members of this board. Noone that doesn't need things like this day-to-day has asked for them. Usually I'm inundated with requests for anything free just because it's free.

I'll leave this thread open until tomorrow sometime, then I'm going to wipe it. Hopefully by then it'll have gotten to enough people that it will continue to live.

oh yeah... to clarify, the numbers beside the topics are not literal versions. they're series numbers. UNIX 2.1 is Rev2.1 of their UNIX books, the UNIX 2.1 books cover your basic SVR4 UNIX OS. PERL 3 is the 3rd series of books about PERL and so on.
