Default Do it myself paint job

I was interested in painting some stuff on my 02' sixer and was wondering what I would need to do it and what the basic process would be. The current paint is in decent condition only a few minor scratches and still smooth. Would I need to take a layer off the area where I'm painting, just go over it? Do I still need primer? etc. I was hoping to go with the canned stuff to save on cash.

do not paint your car yourself unless you have the tools and techniques.

Ok...so do it your self painting is a no-no. I guess I'm going to go ask around the local paint shops then. What would be a good price for some small stuff(stripes etc.)? Decals just seem to expensive for that but if its more expensive to get the paint then I'll go with that then.

decal it if you just want stripes... painted stripes will cost you about a grand to start.

you were willing to use rattle can paint so show quality isn't what you're after, use the decals.

One of my customers got stripes put on his car by the dealership. He removed them because they werent straight. Then he found out that the place used a knife to cut them, on the paint. So he had cuts going all the way down his car. Went way to deep into the clear, had to get it repainted. Luckily the dealership paid for it.

Wow, thanks for keeping me out of that then. I was hoping to go with some c-stipes any of you know a good place to get them? I found some but I thought that the price was a bit high, $150 for a pair.

Ok, since you're already on the subject, I want racing stripes down the center of my car. This guy was charging me 650 dollars for vinyls, and 450 dollars for a bumper replacement. The bumper's reasonable, as they're painting it and putting it on my car. But 650 dollars for vinyls? Is it just me or is that ridiculous?

no... 650 is totally nuts. Buy the decals, apply them yourself. Do good work.

I would spend the $$$ on getting a thick UV protected set. I got a cheap pair and was a nightmare to remove, Jacktheripper had the same issue. Always ask how thick it is,does it have UV protected and how long does it last plus ask them to send you a sample.

I've been running around the internet for a while looking for places with it, and I can't find anything other than the damn thin-as-heck Lemans racing stripes. Where'd you get your good one's from venom? or is it paint?
