Default Hey MattJ!

Would you be willing to write a comprehensive car audio guide for the community? It seems like you have quite a bit of experience and are quite vocal about the subject. I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate you doing so. I know I would!

P.S. Heres my new car thats eagerly awaiting you to drop some knowledge on his owner.

ask any questions you want. I could write a book from the physics spectrum of it, to which products suit you best, custom box building, and how to get the best of what you got.

i cant fiberglass though so you are on your own there.

Well, alrighty then =)

(Long Post, Sorry >.<)

I was finally able to find an affordable mustang and I snatched up a Sonic Blue 2003 V6 with 60k miles with good interior and exterior conditions for 10,500. I love my new stang but I'm looking into car audio now to round it out a bit. I'm fairly ignorant about cars in general and even more so when it comes to car audio.

I've read online that the brand Kicker makes some quality subs and amplifers, is that true? A buddy of mine seems to agree and his advice was to get 2 12 inch Subs with a 1000-1600 watt Amp. He also suggested I have my trunk dyn-o-mated. I have read that your box is extremely important in the sound quality you get from any brand of subs. I've even heard you could even make a "cheap-o" sub sound good if the box its in is built to specifications. I guess that brings me to my next question, what exactly are the specifications for a 2003 mustang trunk?

Now I've visited the kicker website and they seem to have quite a few different kinds of subs, comp, VR and VX for the round ones and the Solo square subs. I figure round subwoofers would be best since I don't plan to win any awards for my system and that seems the most common for just daily driven cars. =D

Amps seem to be a whole different thing in its self. Very confusing stuff :P The kicker website lists SX and ZX amps but they also seem to have subcategories. Class D, Stereo and Multi-channel.

Theres also the matter of what Ohm's are and what Voice Coils are exactly. Those are both terms I'm not too familiar with but they keep popping up and seem pretty important when it comes to car audio. If it matters at all I listen to all types of music, hip-hop, rap, a little metal and some types of "techno".
I actually sent you a PM some time ago but I don't think you received it. Thats pretty much it up there but I modified it a little to fit more into the context of this thread. I guess really what I'm looking for is a "beginner's guide" to car audio. I've done quite a bit of research but most websites don't put it into layman's terms, thats where I was hoping you could come in. I also talk about Kicker because its a brand thats fairly accessible to me, as is Rockford Fosgate as well as a lot of those "walmart" brands that you suggest staying away from. (Local Car Audio Places, Bestbuy, Circuit City)

resonant engineering, adire audio, elemental designs, ascendant audio, digital designs, DLS, diamond audio, memphis audio, sound splinter,
I'm wary of ordering from some of the companies you've listed in the past because I really don't know what I'm getting in the end. I am open to ordering something online if you do recommend it highly though. I'm also working in a semi-limited budget. 600ish but I wouldn't mind going higher if its worth the pirce. I wouldn't consider my self a penny pincher I just hate throwing away money because I wasn't informed enough. I'm proud of my car considering its my first "big" purchase so I'd like my sound system to match its most awesomely-awesomeness. =D

Thanks in Advanced Mattj!

Well, since your haven't gotten around to helpin yet matt I'll add another question. In theory, how many watts can a 2003 Mustang alternator handle? 75% of my driving is at night so I don't need my lights dimming and/or causing permanent damage.

The mustang has a 130a alternator and you generally want to save 30a for everything so that leaves you with 100a to play with.
You use the math formula ... Volts x Amps = Watts
14.4v x 100a = 1440w

now 14.4v is in a perfect world and youll lose some of that to the trunk so realistically, youll probably be in the 12.8-13.2 range. Theres other factors as well where you will lose power but theres no need to get into all of that. 1400w is a great start and you could even go up to 1500 if you wish.

ill answer your other question tonight, when i get home from work.
