Vortech Sq-Trim: How much rwhp would I make?

Planning on getting a Vortech Sq-Trim blower for my GT. How much power would I be putting to the wheels? The only mods I have right now is a Bassani Cat Back and 3.73 gears. Oh yeah, it's a 5 speed. Vortech advertises 364hp but I don't know if it's RWHP or at the crank.

There is no way I be making that much power right out the box. I'm going to be getting the non intercooled 6psi kit from Vortech and using the Vortech tune.

you could expect at the very least 320 rear wheel

That's a good starting point.

youre going to want a 75mm TB and high flow plenum with that set up it will definitely give you some extra power. add a boost pipe and smaller pulley and youll be close to 400 rwhp for a few hundred bucks more when you want more power. starting off without those things will still make your car a lot of fun.

Not unless he gets the inter-cooler.

Cool. I got a FRPP 70mm TB just chillin' in my garage right now. I'll probably put that on at the same time. I know for a fact I'll need a new tune other than the Vortech's if I put another pulley on. But will I need a new tune with a boost pipe?

Don't plan on going that crazy. Just need enough to snap my passengers neck when I floor it.

PureStang 12-14-2006 06:52 PM

i wouldnt waste my money on the 6psi kit. i would boost 8psi at the least non-intercooled. 8psi and 4.10's will certianly snap your passengers neck. lol

I might get a good deal on the 6psi kit. About a even $3000 for a brand new one. With the money I'll save I might slap on a 8psi pulley and a different tune. But we'll see. Does Vortech sell a 8psi non intercooled kit?

I'm pretty sure Vortech's base blower is 8PSI, along with Paxton and Procharger.

I know Kenne Bell offers a 6psi, but idk about Vortech.

Anyway, with the catback that might add another 10RWHP w/ the blower for a total of around 345-350RWHP w/ a tune IMO. That's at 8PSI.

stanger00 12-15-2006 12:53 AM

91 octane will keep his numbers a little bit lower than the 93 octane people out here that have blowers. i think my car is around the neighborhood of 370-380 on my 91 tune.

just go for the 8 psi kit and dont beat on the car with the vortech tune, their tunes are crap and will make your car run rich as hell

03gtmustang 12-15-2006 05:39 AM

A blown motor. You cant go into boost with anything less then a custom dyno tune. Just recently a guy here blew his motor running on a KB tune. MAIL ORDER TUNES ARE NO GOOD!

The only thing you can do with a mail order tune is drive it to the tuner for a real tune. Stay outta boost till then.

Mikeaveli 12-15-2006 07:35 AM

I'm definitely going to a dyno afterwards just to see if everythings fine. If the Vortech tune is in the car's cpu when I take it to a tuner can they overwrite the tune or will it have to be sent back to Vortech to get flashed back to stock?

What other mods do you have?

my 91 mailorder tune works great 11.0-11.5 air fuel.

a buddy of mine had a KB tune blow up his motor they gave his money back and he used that for a forged block build.

another friend had a base procharger tune in his car that made his car run rich and act erratic at times. he did that for about 3 months till he had enough cash for a real tune. he picked up 50 hp after a custom tune.

dude that is buying this kit you will have to buy a chip or a hand held tuner

I have a Diablosport handheld tuner. Would they be able to overwrite the Vortech tune with that?

Yea, they would have to tune using your diablo. They would just clear the Vortech tune.

WaterDR 12-16-2006 03:49 PM

A custon dyno tune is a must with a blower. The only exception would be for a well established kit such at from Saleen or something like that, but even then....get a dyno tune.

jeredan2003 12-19-2006 09:44 AM

My car has the same setup. I have the 8psi non-intercooled s-trim. That is the base vortech kit. They dont put 6psi to our cars. Mine has stock TB/plenum, stock vortech intake, stock headers, walbro 255, and 39# injectors. It made 340whp and 354wtq on a pretty conservative tune. The kit badly needs an intercooler. It runs good, but not enough low end grunt for me. Maybe the intercooler and 10# pulley will help.:D

Cool. Do you have lower gears?

wont pick up any low end. i get max torque between 4500-4800 rpms. the car is at 300lbs at 3100rpms and pulls all the way to 390 at 4800rpms and falls off a little after that. once you get the intercooler try a 3.2 pulley first i have a 3.1 pulley and that makes 12#'s on my car. im on a very very conservative tune.

No I am on the stock gears.:shakeno: It needs a nice 4:10 or 3:73 to wake it up on the low end. I think that may be all it needs for me.

RocDoc 12-19-2006 03:20 PM

Depends on the tuner

2 Attachment(s)
I have an 05 GT and won a Vortech S/C in a raffle @ the Unique Performance Car Show in Oct. My base line was 275 rwhp....Mike Wilson @ Lone Star Performance tuned it up to 437rwhp....I asked him to drop it a little
and he got it to 417rwhp....That's an increase of 142rwhp.

Mikeaveli 12-21-2006 08:45 AM

It looks like I'll be picking up a Vortech Mongoose kit instead. :breakdancesmilie:

u should see at least 350 with his tune on it. he treats california 91 octane like georgia 89 octane. thats what he told me when i was at the shop getting my car re tuned on the dyno.

That should be rather safe if it's really a tune for 89. I'm going this route because it doesn't look like my hook up will come thru anytime soon.
