dont worry about doing the PI swap...if anything thats the last thing you wanna do cause it raises the compression....you want a lower compression for boosted applications...just get NPI cams and port you existing heads or get some VT stg 2 or MPH Race heads

after weeks of talking to people about this concern, I've come to the decision that this was the way to go, I'm only going to be running 8 lbs of boost, so the compression won't be much of a concern, plus im going to get steen to dyno tune my car so i completely trust them...

ok..then with the given mods you should be around 350-380 hp..im planning on a used KB 1.7L and puting a built bottom end in mine w/ low compression pistons if i can so i can boost the S*** outta my car..hhaha..but teh bottom end wont come anytime soon

good luck

also..where are u from? im assuming near steen racing...if ur more north (like around PA area) id recomend going to Lund racing...i know a guy that doesnt go to anyone but him....he got tuned for the street @ 750+hp

97stanger 10-18-2006 07:14 PM

i actually live in nj, near atco raceway, where steen is always at...wow thats a lot of hp for a stang!!

there are alot of high power stangs in this area...and since u live right next to PA just go to jon lund in PA...i dunno exactly where he is located...but the one thing i do know is that he near me in chester county cause his number is 610 as is mine

lundracing.com

and check out SVTP's "a taste of home" forum...then go to Midatlantic Cobra Association....that all of the Mid atlantic states in 1 forum.haha..look at their sigs and most have tuned by jon lund/lund racing

97stanger 10-18-2006 09:09 PM

okay ill definately check it out!

jeredan2003 10-18-2006 09:17 PM

Why do you need a PI swap?? Just run more boost. Youll make around 400whp since thats what your stock bottom end is limited to....

97stanger 10-19-2006 07:18 AM

you can't run more than around 10 lbs on your stock block...and 10 lbs on my non pi stuff won't yield much more than 300whp

your gonna drive all the way down to Steen for a tune? I like them and they will be building my Teksid block but there are a few good tuners in our area. How about Radical Racing in Atco? Craig is very good...or JD's just outside Philly who are good. Then you have Kauffmans in Dilsburg PA who i think are at the top of the list with the best tuners for modulars anywhere. Totally worth the 2 hours drive.

Oh what wheels are they on your car? They look similar to a set i used to have.

97stanger 10-19-2006 05:02 PM

well i was thinking of going to JDM, im going to get some prices and see whats the best...by the way, they are 18x9 chrome saleens

r3dn3ck 10-20-2006 09:25 AM

if I might pop in for just a second. You want to run 8psi on a 10:1 compression motor with hypereutectic pistons. If you're really sure you want to do that (don't get me wrong, I know this to be a really powerful combo but let me finish) then you really should build the bottom end. Sorry to be a negative nancy but I've seen it before enough times and it's just a matter of time before the bottom end gives out and you're stuck with a rebuild (just bolts and gaskets are $300+, assembly is 1000-2500). Or you can find a 99+ short block and just bolt it up so to speak.

You've got PI heads and intake, find yourself a 4.6 block on craigslist for cheap and spend the 300 bucks to machine it then buy a forged rotating kit and have it all put together. It's gunna be kinda expensive and it'll take a while but when you're done you can be happy knowing your motor will hold together when you're smoking a chebbie.

Mug11 10-20-2006 09:37 AM

costing me about $2k to build my shortblock right now. so if yours blows dude, you can have my stock one. :shock2: But blower cams FTW. See pm... lol

r3dn3ck 10-20-2006 09:48 AM

2K... lucky! I've got that and then some in the 5.4 I'm building now and there's still another 3K to go.
