Default New (soon to be) Mustang owner

Hey folks, been surfing here for a few weeks while I am in the process of buying my first mustang. Awesome site you got here, prices are great, already have a lot in mind to purchase after I get my car.

Look forward to spending a lot of time here (And money).

I guess I'll go ahead and post what I am currently thinking about buying and aslo ask the folks here that know more about the cars than I do; what do you think about the 99 Mustang GT. Are there any things (besides the obvious) that I need to check before I do purchase this car? THanks in advance for the advise.

Here are some details on my prospect:

1999 Ford Mustang GT Coupe
Body Style Coupe
Mileage 87,000
Exterior Color Black
Interior Color Grey
Engine 8 Cylinder Gasoline
Transmission 5 Speed Manual
Drive Type 2 wheel drive
Fuel Type Gasoline
Stereo Premium Sound System
Doors Two Door
Stock No. 363
VIN 1FAFP42X7XF215850

The only known mods that I know of at the time are, Flowmaster Exhaust, and a K&N Filter.

Welcome.. Keep your wallet held tight, it goes quick
I see you're in GA but if you can drive it when it's cooler outside, see if it grinds going into second gear. It's outside of it's warranty time so the TSB for the fix won't help but I would be aware of it.

Thanks for the welcome.

FB, the wheels will be the first thing to go, I'm liking the Black FR500's (what actually brought me to MT's in the first place).

And Cobra, I drove the car last weekend and had no problems with grinding it was around 50 degrees out, took it on backroads and highways to open it up and all felt great.

mileage is kinda high...thats the only thing i would be worried about....unless ur going to get a built block or rebuild that one...i would look for something w/ a lil bit lower mileage...

and the problem w/ the tranny is for the 3650 (mid 2001+) so you should be fine....i know this cause its happening to me right now...actually since oct...i just havent gotten it checked

also...check to make sure doesnt pop 2 times as it is let out....cause from wat i hear...the throwout bearings are a PITA to replace....

other than that...good luck....i deffinatly wouldve gotten black if i hadnt gotten white...but i couldnt refuse my deal..ha

bring on the mods

After the wheels are replaced... drop it down about an inch and a half, slap on a chin spoiler, get some tint and you'll be good to go

Don't forget the grill delete....almost forgot

Those are the exact first steps I have in mind for it.....It may take me longer to mod it than most people here, simply because I have 3 kids to feed! Hell, the oldest is 5 I can get her to get a job and feed herself so daddy can mod his mustang, that's not illegal is it? lol.....

Anticipation is growing, my dad is going to check out the car in a few minutes. If all checks out with him hopefully I'll have the car by Friday!!!!!! Goodbye 2.5L hello 4.6!!!!!!!

I have a friend of mine who does window tinting, he has been doing it for over 20 years. He had a 2002 Harley F-150 and did some tribal flames in the windows with black/mirror tint. I was wondering how it may look on a mustang???????? But I may just get him to do a GT dut out in the bottom corner of the front widows instead. This guy can do anything with tint, and is cheap too.

Well, as of last night I am now official! I got the car!!!!!

But...good thing and bad thing.
Good thing: Dad paid for it, so I get 0% financing. Cant beat that..

Bad thing: He pulled a trump card, I can't modify it til it is paid off....Hopefully uncle sam will be good to me and with thaxes and a few payments I hope to have it paid off by summer!!!

But, atleast it has a couple of things done to it, got single chamber flows and a K&N...and the headlights got that haze over them, so I was able to talk him into new headlights....they're just gonna be the smoked ones...

Maybe I should tell him it has an exhaust leak and I need an X-pipe, hmmmm I can probably come up with a lot of "things wrong with it" and mod it in the process.....

"So dad... yeah there's a leak in the cross-pipe, so I'm just going to get a catless one that will sound better, but be more illegal in the process"

Try it. I dare you. I DARE YOU!!

1. I am 26 not 27.
2. I don't live at home (I live with my wife and 3 kids)
3. YOu're telling me if your dad offered to pay for your car so you could get 0% financing, you would turn it down??? The reason he pulled the "no mod til paid off" I guess is to make sure he gets his money back!

No, I wouldn't. Because by the time I'm 26,I would certainly hope, that I'm financially stable enough to afford a 11,000 dollar car. And if I'm not, and I had 3 kids, I would spend the little money that I have on something better than a car ( my children and wife), and not take handouts from my dad at age 26..

BUT thats my standpoint...enjoy your mustang, and welcome to the forums..

Obviously you are young and don't have kids. Because anyone here that has kids (especially 3) pretty much know that you don't exactly have 11,000 laying around to play with. Sure I could have cashed in some 401k or some savings bonds and paid the car off then and there, but then I guess you would have bitched about me taking from my kids future, huh? And it wasn't a handout, I planned on going to the bank and getting the loan, but my dad offered to pay it, I'm so sorry that I have a dad that is well off and offered this (I didn't ask). So, go back to your little corner of your perfect world where you'll be some multi millionaire with a perfect life, with your house with white picket fence when you are 26!

Dont listen to him. Hes still in highschool and his mom paid for most of his car. She also offered cams and long tube headers for him to lose weight.

You just further validated my point...if money were that tight...why invest in a mustang?
