Default timing adjuster questions

I have a 01 gt vert with auto and have purchased a hypertech power programmer and downloaded their power programming. to be honest I didn't feel much of a difference other than being able to adjust shift points and for gearing changes. IS it worth adding a timing adjuster if I already own the programmer?

Probably not. You can not use a TA AND a tuneer or chip that advances your timing at teh same time!!! Please do not do this or: :blob8:

TA's: Cost about $150. Used to advance OR retard timing. Ideal for a racing as they allow for making any change that you want at the strip based on weather, octane rating, running nitrous or not, or just depends on how the ca ris running. They advance timing the same at every rpm range.

Tuners/Chips: Cost $200 - $400. You are generally stuck with whatever tune you get though some can have multiple tunes. So you can't make adjustments at the track (expect for the Diablo Pred. but it only allows for very minor changes). They advance timing at different rates across the rpm range. They generally improve drivability for a modded car. You can raise rev-limitors or shut them off. Can be used for o/r X pipes. Can adjust for gears and read codes (tuners only...not chips). You can change shift points and firmness.

In my opinion, your tuner is way better than a TA. So, unless you race A LOT, and like to use race gas etc... I would stick with what you have. If you do race a lot, a TA might still be a good investment with your tuner as long as you don't advance the timing with the TA unless your stock program is installed.

I have a superchips hand held that I used to correct my speedo and a Steeda timing adjuster I used to advance the timing. I was faster with the timing adjuster than with the superchip performance program. I now run a 4 bank SCT chip which does both and makes more power to boot.

Quick question blue, what is SCT 4. or what ever you had in last post. Also have a question. can I use that set up with the steeda..if i backed timeing to factory. and not advanced like it is now. reason why i ask. is my factory cracnk sensor is currently broke. was the cause of a very nasty and anoying, constant uhhh rattle? ya rattleing from the front with car running and as soon as i shut it down....wow i was ready to sell her .. but any how. not sure how much another one will cost, if i can save with continued use of the steeda TA i have now. and yes im a Newbie. sorry

If your looking for a chip that will give you some good gains then the SCT chip is the only way to go. Ive had the superchip tuner and predator tuner and they both did nothing compared to the SCT chip Ive got now.

Go to mdmotorsports.com and they can tune a SCT programmer for your car. They sell the programmer and cable to download tunes for your car they can email you with when ever you want to make changes to your car. The cost wasn't much different then buying a hand held tuner and the sct programs will usually make your car run better and produce more horsepower.
