Its all gonna come down to how much you want to spend. If you want to install something and notice an immediate differance, start with gears. Usually 3.73 for 5 speeds and 4.10's for auto's. Next step is usually to uncork the exhaust. A aftermarket H pipe either with cats or without will be worth a few HP as will a catback exhaust.
The best bolt on you can do to your car besides a supercharger or nitrous is installing 99+ heads and intake on your current motor. These are factory Ford parts and usually available used for a decent price. Installing the new PI heads on an older 4.6 raises compression and that also helps power. After the exhaust and a PI swap your car would probably make somewhere near 285 HP and with some gears it'd be alot of fun !!!

Default Great Advice But Still Some ?s

thanks for your time and advice it is very helpful but i should have told you my current mods but did not thinnk about it at the time but they are :
factory five speed with pro five shifter
ford racing under drive pullies
basani x pipe with flowmasters
k&n air filter
ford racing plug wires

so what would u suggest now the gears or the heads and intake and if the heads would they just bolt up or will i need some kind of adapter?

get the gears first. it is the best bang for the money. i believe the heads are direct replacement without any mods needed. i may be wrong on this so maybe someone else will chime in and correct me if i am wrong. :TheArchLi

Alright !! You already got some good parts installed and thats a great foundation to build from. I would do gears first. As I said 3.73's are the most popular choice, however I went with 4.10's in my 99 GT 5 speed. The RPM's are livable and while I do have to shift more often, the jump I get of the line is well worth it.

The heads and intake will bolt directly on with no problem but you must use the PI intake with the PI heads. You will also need a chip or handheld programmer to get the most out of the head swap. One thing you might have to account for is the raised compression ratio. If you dont mind running 91+ octane all the time its not a problem. However if you want to run a supercharger down the line, the compression will be a bit too much. There are headgaskets out there that lower the compression ratio to stock with the PI swap but Im not sure who makes them.
If a supercharger isnt in your future, Id go ahead with the higher compression. If you were to add a shot of nitrous to that combo, you'd have a hard running Mustang !!
