xpipe/headers
I was just wondering what was a good longtube headers and xpipe package to get? What do people recommend that would run good together? If i was going to get l/t headers, i would need a short assembly xpipe right?

choose carefully here...
some long tubes are required to be removed when accessing the tranny, example when putting in a new clutch.
my buddy has bbk long tubes and short x, and they are awesome! however bbk is one of the brands that need to be removed for tranny work.
if i were to get some myself i would go with bassani mid lengths. probably won't see the gains of long tubes but gains will still be good! and they don't need to be removed for tranny work!
if you don't care bbks are good!

if you're worried about the money i'd say just get an x or h pipe and forget the headers. not enough gains from headers imo. here's a clip of my exhaust with an x pipe and flowmaster cat back. save the money youd spend on headers for something else that will give you more gains.

Hmm. Im going to have to disagree with the whole, not much gains from headers. Ive seen 20rwhp gains with headers and to me, that is abig gain. I also agree with the flowtechs, those are what Id have if I bought some.

not saying i dont believe you but if you could get 20hp from a stock 97 gt with only headers i'd be the first in line for them. you may get 20 hp at the flywheel on a fully modded 99-04 gt. if im wrong please correct me. i'd love to get some gains like that. i'll order some headers today. i just think theres other things that will yeild better results for that money.

Uh huh, summit racing sells the flowtechs. Also about the gains, check on modular depot. Im not sure about the non pi engines, but Im almost positve you could see a 20 hp gain floppy. Lemme pull up the article.
Ok, found one, but I must say, 20 was a little high on this one. Peak gain of about 12.

Sorry, I keep adding, but scroll down in the thread and there is a graph of some 20+hp gains.

ok, i stand corrected. i didnt know cars were getting gains like those. i always thought around 5-8 hp for longtubes. and i heard 3-5 for shorties.
but still $700 for 18 hp? seams a little much imo. if i can find some good used lt's im gonna have to get them now. i guess ill just cut my x-pipe to match.

www.summitracing.com ......Flowtech Longtubes $250 uncoated.... $350 coated..... O/R X pipe $100. Just road tested the car sounds great, no leaks. Fit better than same other "high" end brands I have installed. Just a heads up. Spend your money wisely. Also...LT's will gain you in the 10-20 rwtorque range, hp gains will be minimal. I have personally seen 17rwtq gains with only Jet Hot brand longtube headers. I think because of the design of mosy of the LT out there, the power variances are going to be slight if any.Unless of course you get into the Kooks custom made ones.

I am not a big fan of headers. Why?
1 - You need to drop a lot of coin to get good ones.
2 - Install is a bitch....and expensive to pay a shop.
3 - Gains are minimal. 15 - 20 with the right setup, but heck, there are
cheaper ways to do it.
4 - Sound nice? Sure, but everyone thinks I have them on my car with my SLP catted X, LM-1 and my stock headers.
If you have real plans to build a power house of a car, then get headers. Otherwise, consider something else.
As far as brand, you can't beat SLP's. If I could buy a nice used set for $300, I would get them. For me, that's the kind of deal I would need to make it worth it for my application.

Yea Im kinda in the same boat on headers. I just cant decide if its really worth the troubles involved. Ive heard of the steering shaft melting and stuff, and I just dont know if I want that hassle with a daily driven car.
