CAI or Ram Air?

ok, heres a question. i have a Bomz Racing fenderwell CAI, only problem is, couple of months ago, it was raining, i drove into a puddle of water and my car stalled, turns out, water got in the engine through the CAI and broke my piston rods, would this be a problem with a new fenderwell, jlt perhaps bbk, or am i better off with the ram air, if so, what is the horsepower sacrifice? thanks in advance

I would go with the JLT ram cai just b/c it is shorter. It comes with a heat shield so u will not get engine heat. It makes more sense to me b/c the shorter length should make it breathe better. Air doesnt have to travel so far to get to your throttle body. Just like exhaust piping the least amount of bends and curves the better air flows out hence better power. The same concept applies to air coming in too.

Piston rods? You mean you broke a connecting rod from water getting into the engine? I don't see how can that happen.

Water doesnt compress, therefore depending on how much his engine sucked up, there was too much pressure on the connecting rods

If you don't want to ever worry about hydrolocking again then get the RAI. I have the JLT RAI and am very happy with it. I don't know how far down the JLT CAI goes. However, I choose the RAI over the CAI becuase of how easy it is work work in the engine. I didn't want to have to get under the car to take the filter off each time I wanted to take the intake off. With the RAI everything is right there and easily accesable.

I've got the ram air, and I used to have the fenderwell cai. I like the ram better. Easier to recharge the filter too xD

Yeah, but that's got to be A LOT water which I can see happening if the car was driven through a couple feet of water, not just a puddle.

As long as the water get's into the engine it can hydrolock it, puddle or pond. I had to tear down and engine once that had hydrolocked. I don't know how much water he drove through but it was and '07 Silvarado, so it must have been alot of water. Blew a hole in the side of the block and snapped two connecting rods.

well it was an intersection, a weird neighborhood one, pretty low too, the car stalled right in the middle, when i got out of the car, water got in the car, and it was about up to my knees, so id say about a foot.

stupid dumbasses with a huge truck started honking at me to get out of the way, then passed by really fast, wetting me entirely when i got out...

That would explain it.

Seems to me that was a bit more than a puddle!

I agree and with what filter? I moved my fog lights inboard and have a scoop where the fog was and 4" aluminum piing leading oncoming air, rain and all, right intom the stock air can with an S&B filter that is oiled like a K&N and I never about hydrolock as you had to go off road to get that or not have a filter!
