Default Sluggish GT

My stang has seemed very sluggish lately. The throttle response is poor as well. I plan to get a new CAI, T/B Plenum and o/r x pipe. I should get decent results from these mods shouldnt I? Any other tips or suggestions out there? I have it tuned for 89 91, and 93. I just added some fuel cleaner and tuned it for 93 and she just seems very slow/ delayed with throttle response.

i would do just a major tune up plugs, filters, wires, all of it and get high perfomance parts you should notice a big diferance. and check your timing.

Default that could be the problem

I don't know too much about cars, but usually i like to change my oil every 6 months and I use unleaded for my car. every month I use Carbuerator injection cleaner to get rid of all the bad particles before I refill it again.
But i think it could be the oil that has not been changed but hey I might be wrong.

Sounds like you need a tuneup and check for all "normal wearable" parts such as 02's, etc... Possible vacuum leaks, could be anything but either way sounds like its very minor issue

My CAI is ss and I got it off of EBAY. It looks like it is homemade. The filter is a K&N , would a namebrand such as BBK be better than my EBAY special? The t/b and plenum I plan on getting is the special from RPM Outlet BBK powerflo 70mm and RPM outlet plenum. Once again is it user preferance when it comes to BBK and other t/bs like pro products? Is it worth $50 more for a BBK vs a pro products t/b?

if your CAI is Stainless Steel, then your decreasing your performance as the engine warms up. it is actually the exact opposite of a Cold Air Intake due to the fact that its metal, and metal attracts heat. the intake to get is the JLP intake. BIG air filter and its a straight shot to the t/b for the most part.

and in your mods list, i see you have a TB spacer, that does nothing. sorry to burst your bubble but it does absolutely nothing unless you have a NEX Plate Kit. it comes with a tapped spacer for the Nitrous Oxide to get to the engine.

also, do you have a custom tune or a mail order tune? if you have a mail order, get a custom one done asap.......trust me...110% worth the money.

A slipping clutch will give poop response. Using a K&N or "LIKE" filter is a negative for the MAF meter. The oil from the filters actually cover the meters sensor and will cloud the meters reading, this will not throw a code.
As the others have said, check vacum hoses!

Hope this helps!

Unless the filter is over oiled, this won't happen. I have a K&N on for 30,000 miles w/ no problems.

I'm betting fuel filter. Are you pulling any codes? You may not necessarily see a CEL even if a code has been tripped.

I'm thinking fuel filter or spark plugs. I've only ever gotten the symptoms you describe from either something pretty obvious or one of those two very small things.

If the fuel filter is over 20k old, replace it. If the plugs are not new enough that you're 100% sure of them, replace. If you need more help, feel free to pm me.

EDIT: your fuel pump could also be going out slowly or not operating at full power (could be because of a bad battery or alternator or a ground short)

That you know of.
I guess it's "OK" and "just fine" and "has never happened before", to anyone, just because you have had one for 30,000. (no matter what amount of oil is on the filter)
Love the follow up post!

Well, tons of people run K&N filters w/ no problem as well. My MAF never got dirty, never got oily, and my intake tract is clean. Others can back me up on this and others can back you up because they had negative experiences. As far as I know, if K&N was garbage, they wouldn't be as big or popular today but instead, the old school paper filters would be top-dog.

yeah the oil on the MAF is only a problem if you wash it out and then re-apply too much oil. The K&N comes from the factory with the proper amount.

that's debatable too... Seen too many come out of the bag dripping. Still.. suppose that this whole K&N sub-topic isn't helping bubbastang at all.

Got some goodies from AM over the weekend. I install my chin spoiler, BBK cold air intake, tail lights, and changed the fuel filter. Changing the filter helped out a great deal. The response is much better and the new CAI is much better than my ebay knock off. BBK FTW!
