Default SCT programmer question..

Hey. Okay well I know whenever you buy a programmer from somone, the original tune from they're vehicle has to be put back. As in he programs his vehicle and then sells it to me. Cant do it. What if he gives me the ecu? His ecu happens to be from a 96GT. My car is an 03 Gt. The ecu was takin out of his car becuase he put a FAST system in it or whatever. Also if it could work.. could I just simply maybe hook up the ecu from 96 on my 03 and put the original tune back on and then toss the ecu? Thanks guys.

i asked a similar question just a few threads ago...from what i got, is you can send the programmer off to get a tune and it will come back with a tune for your car. But you have to get his tune off of there first or it will mess up your car.

What you got is a locked sct programmer and an ecu that wont work. Unless you get him to reinstall the stock tune back his cars 96 ecu you cant do shit on your own with it.

You can however send it a tuner like justin at www.vmptuning.com and he can unlock it and put new tunes on it for you.

Ok so if he sends me the programmer and its locked then all i have to do is contact vmp tuning and they will unlock it for me if i send it in? Are you sure becuase I heard you cant unluck a programmer for shit. If you know for sure though then I'll buy it but I just wanna make sure first. Also do you know how much it costs to get it unlocked? Thanks

like $60. He said it works fine. The only problem is that the tune is still in the ecu and not in the programmer. I wanna jump on it before I loose it, but I dont wanna just waste the money for nothing.

Well i just gave you one tuner i know and trust; if you like another use them. The point is any SCT dealer can unlock it (for a fee) and can install tunes that will work for your car.

Ok sounds good. So if I buy the tuner and he did not take the tune out of his old ecu then I can get it unlocked for a fee of course. On top of that they can give me the tunes i need for the car right? well i can get it for $60. I should go for it right?

for 60bucks most place will charge i think its 80bucks to unlock one plus $50 per custom tune file. I dont know were you live but go look at justins site or even better email him asking him for pricing on unlocking an xcal2 and adding a 1 or 2 tunes to it.

Are you sure its an Xcal2 or xcal1? the 2 is worth money the xcal1 is worth little.
