Default looking for some good mods

hey guys im new to the forum, and i was looking to get some advice on some mods i could get for my 02gt. so far i have a borla exhaust with a catless bassani xpipe. i also have a bbk intake. i was interested in getting some gears and longtubes headers. so far ive heard 3.73 are good and i was interested in JBA headers. let me know what you guys think or if you have any advice.

Personally I would get 4.10's and just about everyone else here is going to tell you the same. They are on my to do list for sure.

I haven't heard much about jba headers but whatever ones you look at get longtubes and not the shorties. For how much of a pain the install is the shorties aren't going to perform as well as the longtubes. I've got bbk longtubes and o/r x pipe and I'm real happy with them. Also I would get a set of locking header bolts and some good gaskets to help ensure there are no leaks and the bolts don't back out. I got stage 8 locking header bolts and percy gaskets from www.summitracing.com for about $95.

JBA seems like a reasonable company. I think there's a video somewhere in the exhaust video section where they put a full JBA on a GT500 and gained 50+ hp. I wouldn't expect anywhere near those gains, but that tells you that their product does produce.

well the only reason i was going to get JBA was because they pass smog. i dont want to go through the hassle of taking them off later or doing that tricky business to register my car. but for sure i have heard good things about JBA

I always recommend these mods to the guys who are just getting started.

K&N Filter (save your money, "Cold Air Kits" are worthless N/A)
Shifter
Exhaust(X pipe and Catback, headers arnt worth it at your power level)
4.10's
XCal or Predator since you'll need to adjust your speedo anyway.
Nitto Drag Radials

I had those parts on my 99 GT, along with a stock plenum and throttle body I ported myself, and ran a best of 13.31 in the 1/4.

Dont overlook used parts either. You can save a ton of money if you are patient.

I'm would not throw headers out the window. Headers do produce much better over stock. My friend had his 02 gt dyno tuned (with diablo) at 273hp and 299 tq with only longtubes, o/r, flows, intake, tb, plenum and 4:10's. These numbers are roughly 30-35 hp higher than stock. Not to mention they make the car sound much better.

Hopefully you're looking at the jba longtubes, you can still get a catted x/h pipe that will allow you to pass emissions. I would throw shorties out the window as they won't produce much better than stock for the pain of the install.
