Default Help pick the right gears

I got a 99gt and do not plan to use nitrous or a supercharger, only bolt on parts. My car is my daily driver but i would like it to be respectable at the track, what would be the best gears for my car????????thanx

There has been a lot of debate about this...I myself posted a similar thread to help me dicide. Basically I gathered that if you go to the track a lot and don't do too much HWY driving than the 4.10's are the way to go. If you do a lot of highway driving and not much track then the 3.73. A lot of poeple are concerned with the RPM's on the highway. I myself am going to go with the 3.90's, couldn't make up my mind.
V8syndicateZ posted this so you can get an idea of the RPM's and speed in whatever gear.www.tchracing.com/tech/gearcalc

3.73s would be my pick. But what do I know, I'm still running 3.27s.

If you're concerned with highway rpm the 99-01's with the t-45(?) have a steeper 5th gear, so 5th gear highway driving runs higher rpm than an 01-04 with a TR3650.

i have an 01 gt auto and my car is a daily driver, all highway (60-70 miles daily) and i put in 3.90s do not get anything less then 4.10s. buy the way your gas milage will not suffer. i will never see a track either. my local track closed down, 5 minutes from my house now the nearest track is 2.5 hrs away.

I say get the 4.10's . I have heard that u dont notice the 3.73's much.
I have also heard that 4.10's makes it feel like u added a supercharger on the car, thats how much faster u will accelarate......

4.10's I drive 40 miles at 70+ mph each way to an from work with NO problems, the rpms will be around 2600-2700 at 70. And from a stop light you really get a jump on people even if you have less hp. if you are not getting a power adder, like you said. I promise you you will thank me later.

Every step up from the stock gears just add 200 rpms.

Ive had 3:73'S from n/a to blown .Im happy with them.
Either way traction is gonna be hard to get unless you run dr or slicks at the track.

Check engine is cats (one of the MIL elim. is bad) and EGR delete. no big deal doesn't effect anything but the MIL. If something is wrong, i can tell before a retard light tells me anyway.

On edit, gas is not an issue, i just got 21.5 mpg mixed driving when i filled up an hour ago.

I also have and reccomend the 4.10's but I also run nitrous, it is a good all around gear, if your car is not a daily driver and will see alot of track use get the 4.30's and dont look back..

If you're just bolt on without boost, get 4.10s or 4.30s
If you've got boost, get 3.90s.
Only if you're above 400rwhp get 3.73s
Only if you're above 500rwhp get 3.55s
The key here is whether you have to shift into 5th in the quarter. You want your top speed in the 1/4 to correspond to near (but not at) redline of 4th gear.
