Talking Victorios Little 4.6!!!

This weekend I raced a few cars, but one got my attention, a 1992 Mustang GT. The 5.0 had full exhaust, BBK Shorties, Mid Pipe, and Flowmaster Catback, he had a BBK CAI, new cams, and a tranny and clutch upgrade. I expected to get my ass handed to me but I was very surprised. It was my first 4.6 vs. 5.0 race and it turned out that it was the exact opposite of what I thought. I took him right off the line and pulled to about 4 car lengths away from him!!! Shouldn't he of beaten me??? :boxing:

Yah, those 5.0's are quick not not as quick as the 99+. I actually think the reputation on the 5.0's is a little bit much. great cars tho. just not as fast.

back when they came out though, there were not a whole lot of cars pushing 200HP like there are today

5.0 are slow. though both of your cars are basically stock. im sure if you were a horrible driver and he were an expert driver the race could have been different.

just an interesting bit of information i dug up, the 5.0's were lighter by about 300lbs, but with less hp they have to work more to get the speed.

1992 5.0 @ 3145lbs + 225bhp = 13.97lb per HP
1998 GT @ 3462lbs + 225bhp = 15.38lb per HP
2001 GT @ 3429lbs + 260bhp = 13.18lbs per HP
2005 GT @ 3450lbs + 300bhp = 11.5lbs per HP

they make less power stock but they are so light it doesnt matter. just a few bolt ones and a good driver and they are fast. hell all you had to do to an LX was bump the timing and runa short belt to hit 13's and i have heard of a few with only timing changes run 13's. bone stock as a rock otherwise.

whats good about 5.0 is that parts are cheaper for them.

I dunno how true this is.. but isn't torque what you really feel, not hp?

Correct, I read once, "horsepower sells cars, torque moves them" The 5.0s arent that fast, but they are a great accomplishment for the time they came out. And yes, the parts are cheap and very easy to come by. I mean, companies are still making intake manifolds for them whereas, we cant even get a decent one ( other than RR and Foxlake) for our cars. Congrats on the wins, but be safe.

And 5.0s were well known for being very torquey! and like Spike_africa said with very little mods they can scoot!! I know my son owned one with 190,000 miles and was running 14.8s-14.9s @ 5000ft elevation with a little timing and very simple bolt ons! Nothing done internally! you said this car had cams??

you say it has cams, but i think you mean it had a cam, the fox body 5.0 are a pushrod motor and only have 1 cam :toothy9:
