seeing as i have a 4.6 i think that this fits in this forum..........i raced an ss camaro, must have been about a 98....anyways i have a lightly moded 2001 gt......and i knew he would beat me, but jeezus......he got me by about 15 car lengths....he claimed to be stock...and it was embarassing.......i am a die hard mustang fan and losing that bad to an ss is a real kick in the teeth............i have 900$ and im going to spend it all on my car..........i am for sure getting 4.10's and the install kit.........and this is where the question begins.......where does the additional 600 bucks go........i am a decent wrench hand, but not a mechanical wizard by any stretch of the imagination and these are my options as i see them......the diablo predator.....an x-pipe {no catts} and headers...or the venom 1000 or 500......which one of these...or combo of these will make me embarass this ss bastard.....i need help from my mustang brethrin.... my car has the slp catback, c&l intake plenum, mac throttle body and cai....and its an auto............that is it.......thanx TRNIN :angry4:

I agree, but I will add to that. The 4.10's , a wet kit, and a good tune. You will wish you never passed your drivers test when your **** blows up trying to beat somebody....get a good DYNO tune with the nitrous, and you will beat his ass. And maybe some DR's too....

just got to get more gold!

the dyno tune will vary based on your car and the facility you use. I was quoted 250 + 75/hr for dyno time. I was told on my car (NA) it prob wouldnt take more than an hour. For a blower car, it may take more

The SS probably had about 100hp more than you, even stock. Odds are he wasn't stock, meaning he had over 400 hp. If you're going up against these things, I'd recommend:

1. 4.10 gears

2. Diablo Predator - reprogram your shift points and tune for premium

3. Drag radials, wide as you can fit (MT's are best but short lived, BFG are good, as are Nitto's)

4. X-pipe w/cats (mil eliminators if you can run without cats)

5. PRACTICE (most important item)

The 5 items above should make you competitive. List will cost you about $1500 or so, depending on how much you can install yourself and whether or not you have to run cats.

Want to squish the chevy orphan bastard?

125 shot of NOS. Use Sneaky Pete if you want it hard to spot.

Got deep pockets?

Twin screw supercharger (kenne bell - 3 sizes to choose from, although you need to rebuild your block for the larger 2). Dyno tune a must, especially with nitrous.

luck

race from a dig with practice you can win. I beat a T/A with a lid and cut out with only drag radaisl an cai, off road h-pipe, and mufflers. also 4.10's and spray is a bad combo, it will just smoke your tires in 1st and 2nd you might wanna go 3.73's. me persoanly i am not even gonna do gears with my compucar 125 wet kit i have a hard time as it is with stock gears and my 275 Nittos.

Default No money? No problem.

If you don't have deep pockets, and the $1500 list isn't enough to whip the SS, consider the redneck cheat list...

Think light - real light. Remove all the speakers (these weigh a ton) and stereo equipment. Put speaker grills back in and buy $5 fake stereo front to cover the hole. Empty everything out of your trunk. Spare tire, jack, etc. Remove back seats, floor mats, etc. Empty gas tank except for 1 gallon of 100 octane racing fuel (if you have a little more money, tune the car for the racing fuel just before the race). Empty the windshield washer. Remove wipers. Remove front roll bar. If you're really desperate, remove door windows. Remove rear wing (it doesn't work, you know). Unscrew antenna. Remore passenger side mirror.

This is a case of purely substituting free time for money. You can make a difference of over 300# of dead weight. Its the redneck cheat list, and it will make you faster.

I spent a buttload to beat those pesky LS1's and I can only beat the stockers. They are just plain faster than a GT unless it has a power adder. I think 3.90's and a 100 shot will beat most cars out there. Just be carefull to set it up safely. There was a LS1 at the track last night running 12.6's with only exhaust, gears and drag radials.

Save... you will be glad when you get a supercharger, because you will be nearly done. Plus any future mods will yield more h/p than without the poweradder.

X pipe would be a good move about now, and if you can put it on yourself and don't need cats, you're looking at $150 or so. Bassani would be my pick (costs a bit more, but worth it for the quality).

Don't forget to lighten the load, and ask around if someone will loan/rent you some drag radials - these are really worth the trouble.

PRACTICE. You may still beat him on the tree (assuming you're at a track)

I'm not a fan of nitrous so I'll recommend 4.10s, long tubes, x pipe, tune

Btw.. i know a guy with a ls1 'maro.. he has all sorts of **** done to it, headers, slp exhaust, 3.73 gears, hypertech tune, k&n induction, and a cam.. he dynoed at about 310 rwhp.. funny thing though they said his engine has 390 so he has major driveterrain loss issues. i raced him from a roll not long ago and he only pulled a car length on me and he got the head start

4.10's and the Predator wont be enough to keep up with that car. Nitrous is your best bet. Im running a Zex kit on my 99 GT and I have had good luck with it. Get some N20, some Drag Radials and lower control arms to plant the tires. If you spray a 100 wet shot, you will be ok with out a tune, but any more than that and you'll need to get it on the dyno..
