Default An unusual Mil Light on my 96 GT!

Hey there everyone!

I will try not to brainfart my question like I did in a reply to a post yesterday. I had my GT emissions and safety inspected. I had no check engine lights or anything on which would have made me think anything, however the computer at the shop pulled up an unusual code for me. It was P01443 or something like that, and said something about the "Evap Control Valve." I checked my SCT X-2 and sure enough it was there. Apparently the tuner at the shop I had my computer flashed had shut off the light, but the code was still there.

So what is this thing? Is it similar to the EGR? I replaced the Purge Valve Selenoid 6 months or less ago, and the vacuum sensor. I did have to retighten my ceramic headers last night and am wondering if the code could have been triggered by the exhaust leak I was having.

Any suggestions on where or what this really is and how to correct it? Thanks.

nope... this is your charcoal canister. It takes the vapor from the fuel system and cleans it of hydrocarbons before venting to the atmosphere. Somewhere there's a valve that's bustinated.

My bad. It is P1443. Isn't the canister located inside the fenderwell? If so, how the heck do you get to it?
