Default Getting Ported Heads!

Just agreed to buy a pair of PI Patriot Performance Stage 2 heads! They are used but only like 20k on them. Im going to take them to the head shop and have them inspected. Costs about $50 for that. The price was $550 shipped. Is that a good price? I know they are $1300 brand new. The guy said they put them on a 96-98 shortblock with big cams and they got PTV contact. Replaced 2 valves in them and havent put them back on.

How much power can I gain from these with some blower cams? The heads wont be going on until later this year but I cant wait! Ill be having a set of stock pi heads/cams for sale soon.

I just got the same basic deal for Fox Lake ported heads. It's a helluva good price. There are a grip of horror stories with patriot but I know of so many cars with them that are happy and full of power that I can't agree totally with Randy's admonishment to extricate yourself from the deal. I would say that Randy can't be ignored outright... he's been right too often. With blower cams you should be right at 400hp or slightly better with your 8lb pulley.

ok, ill let you know when it makes over 415whp on 8psi non-intercooled. Project icebox from MM&FF made 150whp more from these heads, comp cams and headers on an aftercooled 10psi setup.

ok sounds good and if you believe everything you read in mm/ff, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you

good luck wth your project, buy extra head gaskets, valves and a spare set of piston's

Wow...

while I in no way mean to disrespect Randy I don't necessarily agree with him on this one. I've heard way more positive stories than negative concerning Patriot heads...

It's just that the negative stories you hear are always louder and longer than the positive ones...

I could of predicted that response. How about you send them to Fox Lake, Steen Racing, MPH, or VT to have them checked out. See what they say.

To everyone that buys these heads...

And for those who thinks the problems are fixed, here is the thread Randy is talking about, http://forums.modulardepot.com/showthread.php?t=96618

Thats all Im saying.

Yeag you make that power, But it wont be reliable at all. I wouldn't even put patriot heads on my car even if they were handed to me for free. I agree with Randy I hope you have a lot of head gaskets and are willing to pay the price of changing them constantly

And that leads me to some words of wisdom. "Just because it's cheap or free, doesn't mean you should use it because it's probably crap".

Heard good things from VT. Problem is they take to long to get their product to you.

patriot heads are pretty freakin nice. I got to get an up close look at them at PRI in Orlando and let me just say this. For as cheap as they are, they are probably the nicest looking 2V and 4V heads out there.

looks don't make horsepower or win races, + do you think they would take there best junk to the PRI show?

cheap & good should never be used in the same sentence, esp when talking about performance parts

facts are, there heads(patroit) have the worst record when it comes to Modular heads than anyone. they may have eased some of there issues but they are hands-down the worst heads out there.

companys like Steen, VT, MPH and Fox Lake have a much better product and reputation for quality cyl heads

well looks like i wont be getting them. Turns out ive been spending too much on the car and limited my spending a lil. So I just bought an amplifier to go with my eclipse 10". I would rather have some nice VT heads but the price for those patriots was nice. I dont think there would have been too much problem with them.

Dam kids these days......

How the hell do we go from getting ported heads to a stereo?

That's the difference between you and me. I don't need a stereo because I get to listen to my blower and the exhaust - lol

I've never used Patriot heads, but from what I've read they are up there with all their power gains. Just as much at SHM, VT, FoxLake...ect... I don't plan on trying each set of heads myself, so i'm taking the magazines word for it. Who knows... The world could be wrong.

Im sorry, but you have NO idea what you're talking about. If I paid a magazine enough they would say anything, its called advertising. Its funny that you mention SHM, another great company, LOL!

The WORLD knows Patriot heads SUCK, its just a few individuals who dont do enough research and believe everything they read that dont realize it.

Don't believe everything you read. Patriot is pure trash they may make the power gains as the others but it doesnt last that long untill your power is cut in half and you begin to have issues. The "magazine world" is wrong and they get payed money to say good things about a manufactuers crap. It's like selling a turd by putting a bow on it. A matter a fact thats exactly how I see patriots heads a great big shiney turd, shiney on the outside and nutty on the inside.

I just dont see how you guys can bag on patriot performance when you have no personal experience with them or have even looked at a set in real life. All you guys wanna talk about is 5 or 6 posts that were posted on the internet. i think you should have some actual experience with patriot performance heads before you start bagging on them.

ok, you want personal experience. do you want to talk to ALL MY customers who have had to spend @$500.00 + out of there pocket on head gaskets, head bolts and other misc parts because there "new" patroit heads had valve seat or valve guide issues and cost them a engine?

wake-up dude. for the most part they are JUNK and there are WAY better heads out there by companys who do the job right the first time.

I dont want to have ANY expirence with them because of all the stories.

A guy in my local mustang club had them on his car. Dropped a valve out of no where. Now the shop where he had the work done wont sell Patriot heads to ANYONE.
