Default Pulley Squeal maybe?

Alright these colder days are rolling in and my car on start ups makes a squealing noise untill it warms up a bit. I'm thinking its either the belt or a pulley. My tensioner pulley is nice and polished which I think is the culpret. Let me know what you guys think it also could be

Spray some WD-40 on the pulley and see if it stops.

dont do what i did. pulley squeald on morning start ups and would go away. i was concerned but didnt have time to take the blower off to find the culpret. well 3 days later started to drive to california from delaware. made it to bristol and the wife took over for the night and i heard a noise and she started to freak out. lost power steering at 70 miles per hour. we had a bearing failure thanks to some good ol red necks we got it up in going in 2 hours. i gave the dude 200 bucks but he said it was too much and gave 40 back. air force paid me back for that

the pulley that failed on my car was the one between the altenator and the supercharger.

I guess it was your power steering pump that failed you.....I hope its just the idler on mine. But just like yours mine disapates after the car warms up or gets going. If I got you a diagram to look at could you tell me which one it was?

How hard is it to change a bearing out on some of these pulleys?

That diagram doesnt show the pulley that failed on him. Im pretty sure its the 3" smooth one that fits on the blower bracket....yes it is a PITA

Ummmm why wouldnt it? Check it .That diagram is a stock 4.6L motor. It shows every pulley the serpentine belt runs through.

1 Alternator Pulley
2 Drive Belt
3 Water Pump
4 Power Steering Pump Pulley
5 Crankshaft Vibration Damper
6 A/C Clutch Pulley
7 Drive Belt Tensioner
8 Belt Idler Pulley
9 Belt Idler Pulley

I think number 9 pulley is the one that is the culpret but I will find out soon

i was gettin a terrible whineing sound outa my car and eventually took the tensioner pulley off and spun it by hand--ther was tons of resistance and noise it made so i figured the bearing was bad--went and paid 17bux for a new tensioner pulley and put it on Bam night an day difference fixed the prob i think thats prolly the most common pulley that ppl have to replace when they start hearin noises--also ive had other cars where it seemed like a pulley problem but merely was the belt

the diagram pulley number 9 failed on my car its a 20 dollar pulley from ford. the pulley that you removed from the car for the vortech replacement. the bearing is the same size for the idler that failed on my car. thats what we used when we found a smooth pulley on a mercury just switched bearings. you just need a arbor press to get the pulley in and out.

our cars only have one belt so once the belt broke from the broken pulley the car lost powersteering.

Got it. Looks like the #9 pulley on mine is failing. when its cold out its the most noticable and there seems to be a little play in it which means the bearing is bad. Also my belt looks a bit worn and is hitting the front of my block a tad.

Did you really need a arbor press to put it on?hmmm

if you're talking about the #9 in that image, just unbolt it...it came right off on my car last night...

I had a sequel develop on me yesterday but it wasn't the $20.00 pulley....it was the $200.00 alternator

Actually it's only a $10.99 pulley. I need to install it soon.
