Default Going a different route for power

Well, it seems everyone goes straight to a blower when they want power numbers, probably because it's the simplest solution.

Well I think I might do something that many people just don't do anymore, keep mine N/A (for now)

I'm not sure which heads, but have narrowed it down to these. The 2 1/2 heads from Tim (though expensive), VT Stage 2 heads, or MMR heads (these are the one's I'm leaning towards.

VT Stage 2 cams and a P-51 intake. And throw on a 75mm throttle body while I'm at it. I currently have 240RWHP thru an auto.

Foxlake says that a stock GT at 260HP will see 175+HP more with ported heads, cams, the P-51 intake, and 75mm TB. (Along with full exhaust and tune, which I already have).

I think I could have a 400+HP N/A 281 engine very possibly. It seems very rare for me too see N/A numbers, and think that it could be pretty cool to do.

I think with the TB and tune I should be able to do this right around 3000-3500 dollars. Before the labor costs.

Let me know what you guys think of this idea. I just want to be different, and do something more fun and challenging then simply adding a blower.

Im sorry, while it will be fun, it will be expensive, and you will come NO WHERE near 400 hp without a blower or 15.1 compression on these engines. N/A is expensive, and picky, and annoying to drive everyday if you have it too radically set up, which you would have to to get the numbers you are looking for. If you really want to go N/A, you are on the right track with the ported heads, vt stage 2's, and the intake, but if you really want some horsepower on tap, get some spray to go along with this stuff. Personally, I think you should just get a blower, spend the 3700 bucks, and be done with 400 rwhp, and gradually save for other stuff like a built block/tranny/etc.

You should do exactly what Matt said. At one time this is what I had planned..

I was going to get a Mongoose kit from MPH and have a safe tune. After that I was just going to save up for a new shortblock with all the goodies and new heads with cams.. and then after that I'd just turn up the boost, or continue saving and get a kb 2.2.

Thats good, its funny, as you grow up, you realize how unimportant the stuff we do really is sometimes. You have to keep focused.

exactly.. plus if I get all the certifications I need and move to a bigger city I could possibly find a job that would let me afford the stuff I want or even a cobra, but that's all in the future

naw, it's not that what we do isn't important in the big picture. To someone who collects stamps, toy cars, model airplanes, dolls, etc they are still spending their extra money into their hobby. And at the present moment, modding our car IS our hobby so even 10-20 years from now, if we have the expenses to invest in our hobby, we still will. Modding cars isn't just for young'uns

well I have my A+ certification, I need to take my CCNA, Microsoft XP and Server 2003 exams, CCNP II, and Net+ all next month Gonna cost some money for all those tests. And then in the spring I'll probably take CCNP III and my Security+ exams. I'll have hopefully 1 more year at college left and I'd really like to move to Dallas, TX I think (or somewhere in TX). I visited down there a few summers ago and LOVED it. I need to look into emission laws down there lol. I liked it better than Cali, which I was going to end up there (all my ex bf's idea, thank god). There's a lot of jobs in the field I want to go in available in texas. I'll probably still study for my certifications after I graduate from college though that we don't offer here (like CISSP).. I love cisco networking and that's what I want to do.. but I may try to get some more Microsoft classes in too just to have just in case. I really like the security part of networking more though.

there's my big long off topic post of the day

Eww, CCNA....

I'm in that class right now. I'm in dual enrollment for High School. Two periods at the high school and one night class at my local community college. Let me tell you something. 1st Semester blows *****. All it is TCP/IP and OSI, barely any labs and a bunch of bull**** math stuff that is nearly impossible. My dad is big into IT and it's his career. He spends all his free time taking online classes at home and stuff like that. Being around this in my house all my life I thought I could follow in his foot steps easily but once I got in that class I realized this is not what I want to. Currently in the process of dropping the class and opening up more time for work. Good luck with that....

The first semester of CCNA is a bunch of BULL**** just like you said. I learned that stupid OSI model and have NEVER used it since. I did that over a year ago. I understand your situation though, Cisco only gets worse as you go so you should definately get out before you're in too deep lol. It was the exact opposite for me though, I hated networking until my A+ teacher talked me into it and then I loved it

400RWHP NA is tough to get. Even on that GT block you are going to have to forge your internals before you get to that level, because that block cant handle that HP at the flywheel.

Now if you had a Teksid block like me :P
