Default About to race a celica...

My buddy has an 04 celica gt-s with nothing but a cold air. Those are normally slow as **** but his for some reason is abnormally fast. It must have been tuned or something in the factory. I heard it's very rare to come across a car like that. Especially a 4-banger.

I've raced him before the 1st day I got my car and he beat me by a little bit. But I had a 260 lb person in my car and I only weigh like 140.

My car is bone stock because I havent had it that long and I'm really iffy about a lot of stuff cuz I dont want to void my warranty. I raced him a few days back from a dead stop, perfectly even, and we were neck and neck until 3rd gear when I started pulling on him. Supposedly he "missed" 2nd gear. I think its pretty hard to miss 2nd. Especially on a celica.

So last night we kinda got into it and I told him the way he drives his car its going to break down in 10k miles. He says hell "own" me and my mustang is gay. I know for a fact I can take him. Especially if we race past 3rd gear.

Ok now im guna get to the point, I dont get traction for ****, I have firestone 285's in the back which are pretty good, but usually in 1st im just sitting there spinning. What do you guys normally launch at when you race? I want to get as much possible traction as I can so I can a$$ R@pe him and shut him the f^k up. So give me some advice.

Yea, "tuned" or not, you shouldnt have any trouble. They are like 180hp from the factory, dont know how much they weight. Anyway, Dont floor it off the line first off, you have to ease into it so you dont blow the tires off. Really, stock or not, weight or not, you shouldnt have a problem.

The big advantage the Celica has over a Stang is the fact that he can rap that motor out to 8200 rpm before shifts with a close ratio six speed. Even still that motor is only makin 160hp and no torque. You should be able to take him without a problem. I launch mine at 3200 to 3500 with the tcs off and the factory tires set at 50psi. I also dont take it to the redline try to keep my shifts about 5500. Doin this has got me in to the high 13's with minimal mods at sea level.

Dude, you are giving up a lot if your tires are really at 50 psi, let some air out of em, and youll get a better contact patch. And hes correct, dont have to rev it all the way to redline, as our cars make a lot of their power below the redline. Oh, and yes, turn the traction control OFF if you dont already.

Man you should smoke his ass....I raced a totally tricked out Vtech Integra and beat him bad...I mean bad...Take his advice though..Dont give it to much throttle right off the line..Learn to ease your clutch out slow as you accelerate..and you will launch like mad...I can pull a 20-30' burn from 1st gear once I learned how to do this..and you pick up better speed of the line as well...The trick is balancing the amount of throttle vs. clutch release coming out of 1st gear into 2nd....

I tried lower psi 35to45 did the chalk mark across the tread and drive straight to see what wears off and the center ws cupping at lower pressures. 50 seems to be best my tires are worn to the tread indicators though. Time for some new rubbers.

you want lower pressure so your side walls absorb the launce. which means less spin

I smoke preludes and integras all the time, but like i said his car is abnormally fast and running more than 180hp. he can keep up with the srt-4 neons and i think those run mid 14's.

shifting a stock gt @ 6500 is the most stupidest thing i've heard. Much less 7k which a stock engine will not do. If your buddy is doing that he won't be doing it for long.
