Red face I Got A Speeding Ticket!

This morning, I got my very first speeding ticket... in my 4 banger, nonetheless! Ain't that a bitch! I got clocked going 45 in a 35. I was expecting maybe $180 or something... but it came out to be $240! That is pretty excessive to me. I guess maybe those are surcharges included or something. I'm not going to fight it. I don't want to deal with it. I'm just going to pay it and get it over with.

The thing is, I had to ******* scrounge up money for Christmas presents this year and pretty much almost drained what I had left in my savings account, so now I am officially fucked. I do not know how I'm going to pay for this ticket at this time of year. This really puts me in a bind... but I have no one to blame but myself.

I might call to get a 60 day extension, but I really don't even want to do that. I just want to get this over with so I don't have to worry about it for the next 3 months. But that might be my best option at this point because I don't have $240 to spare in only 30 days unless I start selling my *** or something.

I do have another option, I have a few things I can sell to help me cover the costs. What do you guys think is a fair price for this stuff? I have no idea what to ask and I'm not about to rip anyone off.

One of which I know I could get rid of quickly and they are a set of those Agent47 mirrors. They're brand new. I've never even attempted to install them. I still have them in their original box. I like them, I just can't see using them anytime soon.

How much should I ask for these? Does $160 or so sound fair?

I also have a used Pioneer DEH-P7700 CD Player with the remote and face case, but I'm missing the trim piece that goes around the CD player when you install it. The CD player Looks just like this:

How much should I ask for this?

Edit: I don't mean for this to be a classified ad. I'm just trying to see what a fair asking price is before I post any of this into the classifieds.

Damn, $240 is a lot. I have a buddy who is a delivery driver for a pharmacy. He got clocked doing over 100mph (wanna say it was less than 110 but can't remember exactly) in a 70mph zone, he thought he was going to get *** raped. It didn't say on the ticket how much it was, so he had to call the courthouse or to find out. It was around $100. I was amazed. Paying only $100 for doing over 100mph in a 70 is like getting off scott free.

Damn, your friend got lucky! I was kind of amazed at how expensive my ticket was, so I went online to the county clerks website and it said that oftentimes, the actual ticket fine will be more due to surcharges and whatnot.

It does suck, but I'm not in a position to fight it. I can't afford a lawyer and I don't have the time. I just started a new(ish) job a few months ago so I don't think it's in my best interest to try to stick it to the man at this point in time, you know? I'm just going to suck it up and pay it.

The cop wasn't a ********, either. He was very nice to me. Maybe if I showed some cleavage this morning, I would have gotten off a lot easier, haha.

They just passed the "Super Speeder" law here in GA...

As of January 1st, you will be have to pay your speeding ticket and an additional $200 in fines to those caught going 75 mph on two-lane roads and 85 mph and over on four lane ones and be considered a super speeder. That fine will be distributed to emergency room trauma centers across the state. If you fail to pay the super speeder fine you will be fined an additional $50 and your license could be suspended. Georgia has also implemented operation zero tolerance, a crackdown on drunk drivers during the holiday season, spanning from December 18, 2009-January 3, 2010

thats insane paying that amount of $240 is crazyness! Was this cop getting a bonus for the end of the month near xmas time!

I am sorry to hear about your bad fortune there Val, what did the stereo sell for new and how old is it ?

I would say you would get a good $120 - $160 for the A47's, there super easy to install side mirrors if they are like the 04's since I have changed mine out not long ago.

- Let me know how much you would let the stereo go for I might be of interest

Thats crazy **** talk right there, I guess it would be good if you were telling stories in a bar and could say " Hey you know I am a Super Speeder" that kinda sounds like a Super Hero for a cartoon.

If you've never had a ticket, a lot of states will let DD pay for your ticket too. I did that. All I had to pay was the price of DD which was $25.

Val, WTF?

You don't need a lawyer for traffic court. Just go to court, tell them that you've never had a ticket and you'll get traffic school or something like that, the worst you'll come out is probably like $150 or something in that general area. If you don't appear in court and get this ticket expunged, you'll be paying for it for at least 3 more years on your insurance.

DO NOT pay the ticket without at least going to court and seeing what they offer you. For first time offenders they are usually very easy on them.

He probably was going to get an end of the year bonus or something. That would make sense.

I have no clue what it sold for new. I bought it from a good friend of mine that upgraded his CD player. He told me it went for $300 new, but I don't know if he was bullshitting me or not. It is from 2005. Here are some links:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-nqaquWn...ll_review.html

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-CRj5KIY...H-P7700MP.html

If you are interested in the stereo, PM me and we'll talk.

I was thinking of asking like $170 for the Agent mirrors. From what I hear, they are easy to install. I just can't afford to have them painted and all that **** and I just can't see ever using them.

I didn't know I didn't need a lawyer. I have had a ticket, though. I got one for 'careless driving' when I hydroplaned and wrecked my GTO, even though I was going under the speed limit. It was only $160. I took the online traffic school and paid my fine and that has been it. That's all I have.

I just don't care enough to fight, really. Like I said, I don't want to make a big **** about it. I just want it to be over with.

Actually, I just thought about this... My brothers girlfriend is from Fla. and she said that you can take driving school online up to like 5 times there. Call the courthouse (number should be on the ticket) and take the driving school. Don't take the hit on your insurance, that's something that will stick with you for years. Seriously, this shouldn't be too difficult to get out of and you'll probably come out cheaper by taking the time to do the defensive driving course.

This is all taking into account that this is a minor speeding ticket, no reckless or anything crazy like that, plus it is low speed. You should really take a few minutes and figure out how to get out of it. I'm sure you'll have a little time off of work during Christmas/New years, it shouldn't take you much time at all.

Yes, she is right. In Florida, you can take the driving school no more than 5 times every 10 years. I did it for my careless driving ticket... I can't remember if the fine was reduced or not. I think I will do that. I don't want the points on my license. And thanks for your advice, Evan. I was really hoping you'd chime in here.

I just feel like a horrible driver, even though I'm not. I always worry and feel guilty about the most stupid things.

Oh, those ******* will have to be gone. Like I said, I can't afford to get them painted and I just can't see installing them anytime soon. I won't be cheap and put them on without paint because I think it looks tacky. I've been wanting to sell them for a while, I just never got around to it.

240 for ten over? thats just stupid. I would NEVER write someone for ten over. Even then the fine is 90 bucks. First time offenders get a reduced fine or no fine with probation. Hope this shitty deal works out for ya.

what the hell? 240$? what kind of **** state has florida turned into? i got ticketed for 70 in a 55 (running side by side for 10 minutes with the officer that ticketed me, then slammed her brakes to get behind me and pulled me over) and it was still less than 100$

If you take the driving school, your insurance won't go up. However, you'll still have to pay the full price of the ticket.

I didn't read any of the post, because I'm lazy. That is to high of a ticket, but they're douche cops out there. Down here if you say that you were at fault or whatever, they will reduce the fine. You also have the option to make payments on the fine. You don't have a radar dector? We get away with 10 miles per hour over the limit down here, I usually stay around 5 MPH over the limit because that's the max or something. I believe that if you take a driving school course or something that they either drop the ticket or wont put it on your record.

hey Val, check if you can get some sort of installment plan. i know my local courts allow for an installment plan if you cant pay it comfortably at once. that could be another option.

either way, that sucks.. good luck!

I think you can also pay to have your speedo recalibrated and use that as a plea bargain. Not sure how exactly that works, but it's worth investigating if points on your insurance are gonna rise.. At least, talk to a lawyer, he can give you details and work out payments with you to get thrown out.. No points, no fine.. GL Girl, I really hope it works in your favor. 45 in a 35.... Geeez who doesn't do that

See, if you had just listened to me to begin with you wouldn't even have to worry about selling them! Let that be a lesson to you.

I don't know about Fla. but in TN speedo calibration is not admissable(sp?) in court. That is the responsibility of the owner and isn't a valid argument. Basically in simple terms, they will laugh at you and tell you to pay the fine or take some other reasonable means of wiping the ticket from your record (traffic school, bond program, etc.)

She doesn't need a lawyer.. It's a minor violation and she can get out of it. Some states do offer free legal advice for traffic tickets, might check and see, but I really don't think she needs it.
