Default Silverado v. Wrangler

So my beater is on its way out. 150,xxx miles, rebuilt transmission by an extremely shady transmission shop (mom's INSISTED we take it there when the transmission crapped out). it has served me well for the last 2 years and 25000 miles.

I am on the fence about getting a 2001-2005 Silverado or TJ Wranger (97-06 iirc). i know for a fact that the truck will get an exhaust and both will be getting larger tires, new wheels, and a lift. its just a matter of choosing which media lol.

i like trucks because of their v8's, the bed, and the fact that they have a real interior.

i like Wranglers because theyre rugged, on the smaller side, and just plain raw.

I drove an 88 GMC Sierra from 89 until I got my 04 stang. 2WD with a 5.7, and I loved that truck. It was comfy for long trips, and very handy for hauling my boat and anything I wanted throw into the bed. Not a dirt dogger by any means but never had any real issues with her..

Friend of mine has an 02 Silverado. he loves it..

no diesel for me. i live in a climate just cold enough where i would need an engine heater and no access to power it since my apartment has a Parking Garage like you would see in a city.

the big thing that gets me is the gas mileage...i mean, i could get a 1/2 ton truck w/ a 5.3L engine, extended cab, and 6'6" bed and still get better gas mileage than a Wrangler with an I6 4.0 liter that cant haul ****.

and the only reason i would get a wrangler is because of the fact that i can take the doors off and put the top down.

Silverado's are the only truck i will get. I absolutely hate how the F150's look, i will never own a Dodge. My uncle has had 2 GM truck and the one (1997) lasted 160xxx miles and still going. a buddy bought it off of him. he currently has an 08 Sierra. I am a GM truck fan for life. never did like any other manufacturer when it came to trucks.

Jeep all the way, no question about it. I've always wanted a Wrangler and still do to this date. I definitely wouldn't do the whole lift and bigger tires though, I'm not into that stuff.

I picked the chevy, but I dont think you should get either vehicle. Get a Toyota 4wd.

Why **** with inferior Chebbie and Dodge bullshit?? they suck.

I love wranglers...but unless I was gonna be doing lots of off-roading, I'd take the chevy.

My brother just picked up a brand new '09 Z71 about 2 weeks ago.. I must admit, it's a pretty nice truck, but it doesn't have anything on the F-150 FX4.

Honestly, neither of your options make sense for a DD. Trucks only get 18-24MPG on average and cost about $60/tank for fuel +/-..

I test drove a few trucks this past weekend actually. I would get the truck. A jeep, in my situation, wouldn't be any more practical than the Mustang. I liked the power that the Silverados have, but I like the looks of the Fords, but the power deleiver made them feel weak. I didn't even look at Dodge. **** Dodge. Jeeps are cool, not doubt about it. I just don't beleive they provide any advantage over the truck. No I'm not selling the Mustang.

I'd personally go for the Wrangler. LARGE aftermarket following, and they look better IMO. Plus I hate anything GM related. And if not having a V8 is an issue, you can always swap one in.

yea, thats not feesible with it being a dd. if i was gonna swap something it would be my PI heads for the new trick flow heads lol. again, im not gonna put that much money into which ever one i decide to get. $1200 max is enough for aftermarket rims, 32x12.5 tires, a body lift and exhaust. i know jeep has a large aftermarket following. not only do i live 20 mins from American Muscle, i like about 10 mins from quadratec.com's wearhouse.

I agree with the part in bold, but would having a Jeep, which is Chrysler/Dodge related be any better? Not im my opinion. Chrystler can burn in the same realm of hell as GM. But brand loyalty isn't really the issue, sorry I deviated haha.
