okay so i get to drive my brothers 84 280zx for a while, while my mom drive my mustang.
my brother said i can upgrade his car.
um i want to do a v8 swap into it. my pans are a:
301 Pontiac
put 882 heads on it,
550 quad or 750 quad
long tube headers
Mallory high ignition cap
i want to put a small vt cam in it (don't know the size so for hp numbers if yall can forgot this part)
i saw this will make roughly 300 hp what do yall think??
then i want to put wider tires on it. put 25% tint all around with 5% on the t-tops
its already lowered so thats not a problem. i think that it would be a fun car to drive. what do yall think?
i would put a 350 in it, but we don't have one thats not going into a race car. if we had one i would put it in.

The only reason I wouldn't be gung ho over throwing a big bowtie motor in that 280 is you race correct? Why not make it a new race car and branch out into a different class. But throwing a V8 into that little car might not be good for the track.

i wanted to use this car as a straight line car.
and the inline 6 is pooing out on my brother..
the motor will fit right in, with new motor mounts.
i was kinda thinking the 301 would be a good fit, because i don't want a big mean 350 in that small of a car (like the ones we race) it would be crazy.
plus the in-line 6 my borther has in the car has almost 200,000 miles on it. the 301 has 41,000 i am thinking about liability on that one..
we can pull the 6 out fix and refresh it make it like new, while having fun putting good miles on a slightly used v8.
and anyways i am use to driving a car with a little power in it. this car has no *****. almost worst than my moms Taurus. it use to be decently fast, but has been loosing power, bad....

in my first race car (enduro) i ran a 283 with 305 heads a power glide 182 tranny with 343 rear gears was decently fast..

~20 years ago I had a 240z that I put a 8-71 blown 350 in. It was an otherworldly fast car in a straight line and lifted the front wheels in 3rd gear but it wouldn't turn well enough to get out of its own way and shredded the rear end all the time (reason I don't own it anymore).
I'd take a motor from a late 90's 240sx, slap a turbo on it and call it a day. They're fast, light and torquey little motors and you won't have to spend a chitload of $$$ getting it in the car. With a turbo you can easily see 300rwhp which is about enough to frag any specific part of the drivetrain.

the only problem that i have found now. is i will need a better tranny.. the manuel in the car sucks and has crappy ratios in it.
a t-5 will bolt in perfectly with slight modification to the tranny mount..
and i would have to put a t-5 in car for reliability. plus more fun!
so i will see if i can do the swap when i get some money..
just need motor, motor mounts, tranny, and tranny mount.. it does not seem that hard. and i am pretty sure i can use SOUTHERN ingenuity to make it work properly.
but i just want a little bit more power, and i have all the parts except tranny and mounts to make it work.. it seems easier than buying a turbo engine to put in.

QUESTION: Why are you spending your money modding your brothers car? I'd be cool with him paying for it and you doing the install, but it seems a little pointless to put your money into a car that you'll more than likely not be driving regularly.
And you say you've already got the pontiac 301, correct? Sell that and buy a bowtie 350. I could buy a working 350 around here for like $250...$600 for a 400, but I doubt you'd be able to fit the 400 in there, and really it'd be counter-productive because it's so heavy.

a 350 would not be hard to get at all, but i want a 301 to b different...
and i am modding my brothers car because he is going to get a different one and keep this one on the side. so maybe we can go and use it as a drag car is the only reason...
