I think you have a better chance of being sucessful if you do go and finish school. Its not the only way to be sucessful but going to school is the easiest way to achieve sucess. Having a degree is only part of it as there is alot of "Paper smart" people who work with me. I have to work 2x as hard to prove myself but for me its easy.

in college, i wont lie ive gotten side-tracked with the obsession of my car but hopefully this semester i will spend more time studying and less on my car.

 

No one hear said your were dumb. I merely stated that I could not understand what you typed. For all I know, you could be an immigrant who has only been in the country for a few years and struggles with written thought.

Education is not for everyone. In fact, I don't personally believe it should be. But people go to school for lots of reasons. Some, with the goal of making big bucks, and some with the goal of making a difference.

I have a dear friend (Jamie) with a graduate degree in Childhood Death Counseling. Her profession is to work with dying children and their siblings. She makes about $40k per year....not exactly a lucrative field. There are NYC toll collectors making a $100k.

By and large, though, and if you play the odds, the more education you have, the more money you earn. The other issue that is often forgotten, is that most professionals earn about 35 - 45% of their income in benefits which never show up on their W-2's (such as 401k match, pensions, life insurance, health benefits etc....).

I hired a friend a few years back and we had to bring him in at a lower grade because he lacked a college degree. He has done extremely well and even got Service Technician of the Year last year. He used to have a chip on his shoulder towards people with degrees thinking that he knew as much as them, but now sees how much he struggles with written and verbal communication. He can not write a proposal of nearly the same quality as the rest of his peers and and competition. He needs to get help continuously.

He has since been promotted into a sales position, but earns far less then his peers. I have worked with him a lot, but basically, we have learned to focus on his strenghts as much as possible and he has made a lot of improvement. Since leaving the auto shop where he worked, his income has more then doubled, but he is still paid about 30 - 40% less then his peers. It is not because he lacks a degree, but because he lacks what he could have learned by having one.

Naturally, there are plenty folks making big bucks that never completed school. This is why this is the land of opportunity and no oner should ever....ever think they are better then someone because of how much money they earn. My friend Jamie is a great example of a reason why.

Furthermore, some people are willing to take more risks and risk, while often times associated with failure, can also reap greater rewards.

But, no matter how rich or how poor someone might be, the ability to convey a thought or an idea is a much greater reflection of a person then the amount of money they have in their pockets.

I would rather be a poor smart person, then a rich dumb person......then again....maybe not - lol

Most of you probably think I am just a dumb-*** anyway.

 

BTW, I had an officer (Commander) in the Navy that once told me that I would never amount to anything after telling him what was on my mind. Sometimes it is better to stand up for what you believe in and be a better person because of it. We also should learn from our misstakes....we all have them.
