Default Going to College

So.. I just turned 18 and my dad has pretty much been like "Im not supporting you unless your in college, so get a job."

Well, around here, 90% of the jobs that pay decent without having to have a degree are out in the oilfields. So I go looking for a job. No one wants to hire me because I don't have experience.. (these people fail to understand that I am young, strong, and easily trained.)

So I finally broke down today, went to the college, went through the orientation process, and now I've got that assessment..

I want to become a cop or correctional officer.. (they get a gun, and they make decent money) so I'm majoring in criminal justice, unless they have something where I can take my P.O.S.T, then I'll be taking that.

I really had my heart set on picking up a trade for a few years till I could go through training to be a cop, but, it doesn't look like its that easy, so now I guess I need to find a decent part time job so I can pay for stuff.

Your for sure doing the right thing man.....not to be a jerk, but who wants to work in an oil field all their life. It might be cool for 10 years, and you might even make good money, but there might become a time where you just don't want to do that anymore and with an education you will have options. Just don't give up even though you might not like school, but it will be the best thing you've ever done! Stick with it and FINISH! Just my two cents

Thanks guys. Yea I understand about the oilfields and how lousy it can be and how I might get tired of it. Its something I heavily considered. Not to mention the wear and tear on your body..

I'm hoping to pick up a part time job working at like a retail store or even delivering pizzas or serving at a resturaunt. I haven't decided on it yet. I had my heart set on moving out, but, it can wait. I do know I need an education to go anywhere with my life and have financial security..

Unfortunately I missed the assessment I wanted to go to today, so I have to go on Monday.. no harm done really though, hoping to score high on my math/english so I can actually learn..

I struggled in highschool because I got bored easily, being taught things I already knew.. I think college will be MUCH different though..alot more freedoms, and theres always something good to learn there.
