Need a top of the line Anti-Virus Software

Ok, so I've ordered a new HP laptop and basically got it all decked out. I want to protect this thing and get a top of the line Anti Virus.

I've found a McAfee "Total Protection" 10-1 which sells for $123.87 before rebated on their website. I can get this same one for under 40 bux off ebay, brand new of course with everythin there. (UPS code, etc...)

Any suggestions? I don't mind paying for it, so nothing free download crap.

I just use nVidia's FireWall, i got it for free when I bought my nvidia graphic's card, I have never had a virus or spyware either. I'v been building and repairing computers for over 5 years too.

Just stop looking at porn and you'll be ok .

use norton antivirus with norton internet security and you will never have to worry about spyware viruses or anything else i have been using these two programs for years and never had a problem

csledd 10-09-2006 10:50 AM

mcafee and norton both suck in my opinoin..

trendmicro ftw. im using the trendmicro internet security 2007, love it too. protects against viruses and spyware. it has the highest success rate at removing spyware.

grisoft AVG. It's free and really really really good. I liked it so much I bought the enterprise version for my company. It's been less hassle than any of the big names (norton, mccrap, trend) and 100% effective. Updates are hella easy and fast too.

I'll post a link to the download in a second.

http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/

It's free to the home user for the LIFE OF THE PRODUCT.

I use AVG free as well...had norton on a different comp at one time and i thought it sucked. Caused more pain than anything. www.download.com search for avg free.

I didnt click on the link above though so that probably works too

+1

I use a free anti spyware called avast... but i've heard from the computer nerds that trendmarco is the best...

and I had bad experience with both norton and macafee

DarkSith 10-09-2006 02:03 PM

Yeh, I use avast too, I haven't had any problems with it.

wnracing 10-09-2006 04:33 PM

First of all, nVidia Firewall is one of the biggest POS in the world.. It is easier to hack then the Windows Firewall..

Norton and McAfee are... well O.K. they slow EVERYTHING on your computer down..

TrendMicro PC-Cillin is a realllly good Program, I'd suggest that if you're looking for a new one.

If not Trend Micro, Get Windows Live One Care.. Im using it right now just kinda testing it out and it's pretty nice!

ive used symantec corporate and i havent had any problems. its only antivirus though. youll need something newer that can deal with spyware and adaware.

HITMAN PRO for spy ware etc

and sygate makes a damn good firewall that doesnt eat up CPU usage... its free... google it and dl it... I've been using it for a while... its so ****in secure

MattJ 10-09-2006 05:05 PM

ive been using sygate for 4 years. I have yet to see a better software firewall

BlitzStyrke 10-09-2006 05:38 PM

I use eTrust EZ Antivirus. The first year I had it was free and I just started the second year for 20 bucks. I've had great luck with it. I've accidentaly clicked on those viruses that get sent around AIM numerous times and had nothing happen to my computer while everyone else got all messed up.

Lunati 10-09-2006 05:44 PM

Lately Norton has been giving me problems. I've had them for 3 yrs...I might just get trendmicro since ppl keep saying is great.

I'm gonna try trendmicro I think. There's multiple 1-year subscriptions brand new with all software on ebay going for just under 20 bux.

avast is damn good... more then what i need... i don't DownLoad crap so its more then enough... and it blocks those aim viruses before they can install...

so i really don't need it but it has come in handy

WaterDR 10-09-2006 05:59 PM

Get avast. It is free and is the best you can get. I have been using it for two years w/o any problem on all three of my PC's.

It's a good piece of software, easy to use and very effective. There is other software available, but this is one of the best ive ever seen as far as ease of use and how well it works.

The free stuff works O.K. I used to use AVG Free and some of the others, but if you're looking for total protection and easy use this is the one.

Mossberg 10-10-2006 05:42 PM

AVG Free here. Symantec Corporate anti virus is great too. It's like Norton but better without the bullshit interface.

whitethunder46 10-23-2006 02:18 PM

Just received my anti-virus.

Got a 1 year subsription to Trend Micro PC-Cillin for $15. Loaded easily and out of the way when I run apps.

r3dn3ck 10-23-2006 02:24 PM

you paid for virus protection... eeek. whatever makes you happy. Trend is pretty good though so I can't say anything too bad about it.

$15 for a full year for complete protection. I don't mind it. I also pay for my music :)

r3dn3ck 10-23-2006 02:42 PM

now that's just sick. You make me a sad panda. paying for music... what's next? Putting babies on spikes?

csledd 10-23-2006 03:19 PM

good choice with trendmicro bro

MustangGT423 11-02-2006 08:21 AM

I used norton anti and norton internet security but still got infected and had to format my pc a few times, but I'm gonna get Trend-Micro Pc-Cillin Security Suite and try it out. Hope you guys are right...:worship2:

It's been working great for me so far. Also comes with 3 subscriptions so you can install it on 3 separate computers.

I bought mine off ebay for $15. Doesn't come with a box, but comes with the case and product key.
