Default The Official NCAA Tournament Thread

March Madness.... the best time of the year (other than Super Bowl)

I personally am a HUGE UNC fan, but just college bball in general. I'm stoked that UNC's first round is in Dayton, OH. I live in dayton, so I'm doing everything I can to scrounge up some tickets right now. They've been sold out for awhile now, so this will be hard.

**** Duke... you know how many games they've won by 2 and 1 points? That means that they're not a god-team this year, which makes it more competative throughout the entire bracket.

But, that becomes an asset come tourny time. Let's face it, how many games are close in the tourny? A LOT. You have to know how to win the close games. Just look at the 1999 season, with Duke being 37-1 going into the championship against UCONN. Duke won my an average of more than 20 points that year, and were undoubtedly the best team in the country by far and got beat. Going out and beating the crap out of everyone is not necessarily a sign of being a team capable of winning the tourny. Besides, it is not always the winner who is the best team, it is the team that can win 6 in a row. Duke just proved they can win 3 tough games in a row, consecutive days. UCONN can't say that.

Here's the final bracket and matchups:
You hate Duke because you like UNC. That is the ultimate sin for Duke/UNC fans to like the other or pull for the other, except in the instances where it actually benefits their team in some way. I HATE UNC. Next time they put Hansbrough on tv, it needs to come with an X v-chip rating because he looks like a personified ***** walking around (Take a look at him and you will see it.)

I don't know where you get JJ being cocky. He is the one that takes all the crap from everyone else and day in and day out proves them wrong, and never once in an interview have you heard him put another team down or play up his records or scoring. No Duke player has ever been like that. That is more than I can say for those UNC ******.

Ask any college bball fan OTHER than Duke, and they'll say that about Redick. I mean, i hate Duke and all, but i do give Redick props, he's a great player, but i still dont like him. And btw, Duke hasnt made it pass the Sweet 16 in 4 straight years:clap:

Try again. Final 4 in 2004. They lost to UCONN. Duhon hit a halfcourt shot at the buzzer, although they were down 4 at the time. It Georgia Tech-UCONN in the final. Oklahoma st was the other final 4 team.

I know people say that about him, but at least he backs it up unlike alot of other players, especially when it counts the most in huge situations.

Just saw it on ESPN bottomline, Duke HAS NOT MISSED THE SWEET 16 since 1997. Maybe that is what you saw and got confused.

Check your history there bud. 01, won champ., 02 lost to Indiana in sweet 16, 03, lost to Kansas in the sweet 16, 04 lost to UCONN in final 4, 05 lost to Michigan st in sweet 16. I have my Sporting News basketball guides in front of me with the results in them. Plus, what I said about not missing the sweet 16 since 1997, was word for word from the bottom of the screen during Bracketology. Look it up. I am right.

Well the point is Duke isn't all that grand high and mighty if UCONN has knocked them down twice in the past seven years. I'm UCONN through and through.. but I always like the tradtional rivalry games between Duke and UCONN.

What happens one year really has nothing to do with what happens another year. Each year is different, with different lineups on each team, different injuries, things just differ from year to year, so saying that Duke is not good because UCONN beat twice in 7 years doesn't mean anything, it just means that in those 2 years, UCONN beat them. UCONN does not have the same team it had in 1999, neither does Duke, so because UCONN beat them then, does necessarily mean they would beat them now. Saying they would beat them this year is merely an opinion, as obviously I would say Duke would beat them. The games are settled on the court, and no matter who a team is paired with, they must play them and must win if they want to win a championship. It will all be settled on the court, and will come down to a one team's "One Shining Moment" on April 3.

I am not here to argue opinion, but I am going to set facts straight. No one can touch the fact that Duke has been a #1 seed 9 of the past 10 years. Regardless of whether they won the championship, that is an accomplishment and an honor in and of itself. Like them or hate them, you can't downplay their records/accomplishments. The numbers don't lie. One team cannot win the championship every year. UCONN, Duke, Michigan St... didn't win the championship last year so they MUST SUCK and will never win the championship again

Well first of all somebody must be paying off that comittee if they're landing first seeds the past 9 out of 10 times and not at least getting to the final four. Second, I never said that just beacuse they don't win the one year means they'll never win again.

But can we agree that a tradtional match-up between Duke and UCONN would be entertaining to say the least?

I am gonna have to go with Kansas, they arent the best team out there but they beat texas pretty bad last night and plus they are young so they got some great years ahead of them. I personally was pissed when Roy Williams left for UNC, understandable but gay, and was dissapointed when Self did a crappy job his first year but am now satisfied at the job he has done this year with such inexperience, I know they arent gonna go far but a sweet sixteen would be awesome especially since 7 of their 8 leading scorers are fresh and soph this year.

As one of my T-shirts says... "Got Roy?" (On front) "We do!!!!" (On back)

I personally think Duke, Gonzaga, Ohio State, and UConn in the final four.

JUST HAD A THOUHGT: If I took the time and made a online tournament for Mustang Tuning, how many of you guys would sign up and fill out a bracket?? If I/we do this I could make a new thread with the URL and a couple notes, then maybe a mod could make it a sticky until the tourny was over???

That would be cool...I like that final 4. I personally think it could be a toss up between BC, Villanova, and Ohio St, but my gut just says we will get that UCONN-Villanova rematch and then the Duke-UCONN championship.

Yes we can agree there. I would like to see them play this year and see what happens.

But you have to remember that the committee doesn't/shouldn't look year to year to see trends though. It is more about who earns the number 1s, based on regular season/conference tourny play. Clearly every year, they have earned it. Remember, there has never been an all #1 final four. It's not like it is all that easy to just go out and win a championship.
