Default mustang 4.6 question

Hi everyone, does anyone know the answer to this?

I have a 2000 mercury grand marque with a 4.6 V8. ( SOHC )

is this the same 4.6 that in the mustangs? if so, are there any differences? (valvetrain, exhaust) I'm not wanting to do much to the engine, but it would be nice to know what CAN be done as far as performance upgrades.

thank you in advance

As far as I know the its the same except for the intake, exhaust, and program. Apparently they did not receive the PI heads until 2001. Thats all I can think of.

O.K. so the block and heads are the same.
meaning (theoreticly) i can put a mustang intake, and exhaust in and replace the main chip with a mustang chip.

Forgive my ignorance but, what are the PI heads? Port Injection?

anyone else comfirm the PI heads are from 2001 and up?

thx punisher

PI Heads stands for Power Improvement Heads. The PI heads went on the Mustang in 1999 and represented a 40 hp improvement over the 96-98.

Apparently, in your car, these heads did not go on that model until 2001 (not according to me, but based on the earlier post)

I did a quick search and found two different places that said the heads were a 2001 upgrade so I would assume it to be true. I think the Max Micro Tuner for the Mustang is the same part number as it would be for a Crown Vic or Merc. Marquis. I would imagine most stang parts for under the hood would work for your car minus the intake and exhaust. Welcome to the forum by the way.
