Cdc Shaker

Hey guys, anyone have any experience with the shaker system for sale on this site? Besides looking good, are there any real performance gains from this. Is it the same system that is on the Mach I. Also, how hard is it to install? Thanks for any help/info you can give.

Its just for looks....

I don't know what performance gain you can get from adding one to your car if any at all, but I know when I fire my Mach up I can hear air suck through the shaker, so on my car I don't think it's just for looks. I believe Scott Hoag, the guy who designed the Mach 1 said you don't start seeing any performance gain from the shaker until after 70mph. For what it's worth its a pretty freaking cool looking!

MAD SAMURAI 11-16-2005 05:30 PM

Yeah...I think it looks awesome!! I'm gonna have a little extra $$ floating around for x-mas. I'm just not sure where I want to put it.

jjtgiants 11-16-2005 05:40 PM

I guess it just depends what your looking for. If you want a performance mod, the shaker probably isn't going to do anything for you.....if you want a "look cool" mod then this might be the one. It just depends what you want to do with the car. I think there is another guy on this website that put the shaker system on his GT so maybe he'll chime in.

That doesent suprise me. I never thought it would do much good at low speeds, however, get going fast enough and have that air ramming in, i'd imagine it starts acting like a supercharger.

It would be interesting to hook up one of those boost gauges to the intake on the mach1 and haul ass down the highway and see what the PSI for the intake is at various speed.

Speaking of "ram air" What do you think the benefits would be to adding a ram air kit to ones car? Is it worth it? I have been pondering this for a week now, and would like someone else's opinion before I spend $120.00 on a kit.

Lances03SVT 11-16-2005 06:28 PM

They don't work at all. There are some very long threads about them on some other forums.Alot of people wasted money on the "Ram-Air" TA's it was all tune.

If yer going for 1/4 miles runs i say the ram air is a good idea. From stoplight to stoplight i doubt you will benefit at all.

If the shaker is set at a point where the aerdynamics allow the air to be rammed into the scoop yer going to get a benefit at high speeds, it becomes a sort of forced induction. Drive down the highway at 70mph and stick yer hand out the window, that is the pressure being forced in.

However, with the mach1 setup, the shaker is very low profile and close to the hood. I have gone out and washed my car many times and hit the highway to help it dry off, however, the water on the hood doesent move much, that is because of the aerodynamics of the car. That tells me that air isnt being forced in with the same wind force felt when sticking yer hand out the car, or the water would roll up the hood. Ill bet if the shaker was about 2-3 inches higher the benefit would be greater.

but then again, im not an engineer or a physics guru, so i could be wrong.

Yeah i dont doubt it. With a bigger mouth in a location where the aerodynamics actually encourage the air to move in im sure it would benefit. You wont see it on a dyno though unless you had a fan producing the correct windspeed to see the benefit.

I still think they best way to gauge it would be with a boost gauge tied to the intake to see if the psi of the air increases with higher speeds.

If i had a mach1 i would totally go out and buy the gauge and hit the highway and try it out.

Ya I see your point..The whole air thing has been puzzling me.. I thought with my air filter down below my light would breathe more air, but I ended up cutting the pipe for a more straight shot version. So the air still travels up the same path Im sure, but didnt know if by have a tube going directly from the front of the car to the filter would help much..I also can see where higher speeds would benefit, as opposed to short runs from light to light...I too would be curious to see if it worked by way of a gauge..How would you set that up? Doesnt it have a sensor?

Here is a long thread about it.

The jury is ajourned....Thks....

speaking of the shaker.........wouldnt u have to buy a mach 1 hood if you bought the shaker system 2 get the 3 different levels of the mach 1 hood??????i dont see the shaker looking right coming out of a gt hood.......

jjtgiants 11-17-2005 09:37 AM

I think slappy is probably right about the aerodynamics of the hood and the shaker....but that's probably why the hood of the mach 1 is different than the GT hood. They have a shaker extension kit that raises it a 1/4 inch or something close to that....I don't know if it helps, but it probably looks cool.

I'm pretty sure I've seen instructions somewhere that showed you how to use the existing GT hood while cutting a perfect "hole" to fit the shaker. I'm pretty sure you can also buy the hood, but then your talking about a $1,700 (at least) mod that more than likely won't get you any HP, but will look pretty cool I guess.

You yank off the hood scoop, then cut a hole for the shaker, then there is a top piece that attaches to the top of the hood to give it that 3rd level.
i think

I will say it again, if you are adding a shaker on a 2v in hopes of gaining power you are wasting your time...we all know how much power ram air gives..

So what exactly makes you think that if we all ignored you the first time that were gonna give a crap this time? :D

B-rett 11-17-2005 12:05 PM

alrite so there is a piece you can put on ur gt hood that gives it that 3rd level cause without it i think it would just not look right

What kind of idiot would put one of those on a GT????

Oh, wait a second! :D

B-rett 11-18-2005 06:25 AM

yea at one point in my life i will def have to put the mach hood and shaker on my car

4.6 Love 11-18-2005 09:25 AM

are you guys putting them on for looks or for power?

MachGT 11-18-2005 10:19 AM

oh darn right, I'm all about that 2 hp above 80 mph :p

It looks sweet as hell when you shift hard and the shaker jerks to the left

4.6 Love 11-18-2005 10:42 AM

I am soooo gonna get one...
