Geared up

Gears are one of the biggest bank-for-buck changes for these cars. I personally recommend 3.73 gears for daily driver manual tranny 99-04 stangs, but with the AOD I'd consider 4.10's as well (the auto sucks down quite a bit of power lost in the drivertrain, and the extra gears help this problem).

If you're looking to put a twin-screw blower into the car, wait. Your gearing needs for those torque-machines are closer to the stock 3.27's (maybe 3.55's if you are going to put lots of rubber under the rear).

R3 and GT Johnny are right. 3.73's are the best for the road. They give good acceleration and yet still won't eat you out of house and home at the gas pump. 4.10s will drive your revs way over to the right, and at 3 bones/gallon, it just ain't worth it. Haven't done it on my Stang yet, but I went with 3.73's on my 71 Skylark, and a friend went with 4.10's. (Well, gas was under a bone, too. No comments on my age - LOL) Anyway, his left the line quicker for sure, but mine got me to/from college a hundred miles each way on the weekends.

I also have some friends of mine suggesting a Kenne Bell Supercharger, along with the purchace of axles and center section. and then friends sayin that the pully burns up. This is my first Cobra, and not really in for screwin it up.

Depending on what you want to do with the car will change what mods I would do.

Like Spike said it depends what you want to do with the car.

If you're keeping it N/A I'd say first mod should be gears, then either replace your heads with ported set or send yours out to get ported, match them with a nice set of cams and that would give you a nice performance boost.

If however you are wanting to go the supercharger route beefing up the drivetrain would be advisable. I haven't heard of any problems with the Kenne Bell pulleys. A set of ported heads and blower cams will help you get the most from that combo. Others have recomended close to stock gears with this combo to avoid spinning the tires too much.

+1. I have never heard of KB Pulleys being eaten up. If they are it's because of an install issue and the belt being off. I have heard issues of belt slippage, but that's what you get with a twin-screw.

I'd try to determine whether you want a full N/A car, or want to go the route of power adders.
