Default Moser axle help

I have a 2001 mustang gt tha i am getting ready to do axles and diff swap. I am going to 31 spline set up. I found a pair of axles from craigslist in my area. I called the guy and he said they were for his 2005. Will these work with my car if i get a 31 spline diff.

Nope they are a different length. Also the 05+ come with 31 spline axles stock, so that is most likely what he is selling is stock axles.

I had one more question about the diff. I can get a good price on a detroit locker. What is the difference between the locker and a cobra posi differential and what is the way to go.

A locker is a totally different beast. It is a mechanical mechanizium that actually "locks" Both axles together. This makes for great traction in a straight line. However when you go around corners and it "unlocks" you get a clicking sound from the teeth in the locker sliding over each other to let the two axles move at different speeds. This can also cause some wild fish tailing if you stab the throttle on a corner and are not used to having a locker. In the rain this can be scary if you don't know what your doing.

I put an Eaton posi in my car.. mostly because it is my daily driver and it fish tails in the rain/snow enough on its own.

Here's a vid I put together with some pics from the install..

She is running the Eaton Posi, not a locker.

And she is pretty badass. She installed most of the things on her car including the cams.

Would you go with a locker on your Mustang?
What's the difference between Eaton Posi and Stock Posic?
What do you get out of changing the Spline?
Noob questions I know.

It's even hotter when a girl can work on vechiles too.
I haven't found any American Muscle type girls, mainly all imports. :/ LLOL

The 31 splines can take repeated shock loads from cars with a lot of torque. I dont know the real difference but I'm sure the Eaton has more spring force on the clutches over a T-lok. I wouldnt do a locker just because I would probably get tired of the noise they make. I put a 2003-2004 Cobra T-Lok in my car and it gets both wheels spinning even on right hand turns.

So pretty much you'd have to upgrade if you have more power behind the wheels? I'm asking because this car I'm looking at to buy said:
Upgraded differential axles and mount, 31 Spline
Upgraded 26 spline input shaft on tranny
That's why I was asking about it.

I need to find me one like that..haha^^^
I was wondering what i should run...i am going to be setting this up mainly for drag but i am also going to be getting it out and running on the weekend. I need something that is going to handle alot of torque and be able to launch like i want it to...(still the posi or the locker, i can get a brand detroit locker from my buddy for $200.)

getting ready to order the parts. I am just second guessing myself, i really want to know what is the best set up for some mean street driving and hard driving at the track. I want to be able to drive around town and not have problems with setup. So locker or cobra posi?

Thats basically a FRPP T-LOK with carbon clutches...the same thats run in a 2003-2004 Cobra. I have one and its perfect for a budget build...I plan on keeping my car in the 400-430 hp range and not going faster than a 11.5 in the 1/4 mile for a long while.

I think what Turbo is saying is pull a explorer differential from a junk yard and rebuild it with the carbon clutches. This will give you a FRPP T-LOK.

31spline Ford posi with the Kevlar clutch pack from the 03-04 Cobra would be the ticket. To be honest I am not even gonna upgrade to 31spline. When I finally break an axle I am gonna toss a moser 28spline in there and rebuild the posi with the 03-04 Cobra Kevlar clutch pack.

Um, you don't want to break an axle, unless you have c-clip eliminators. Also, the difference between the Moser 28 spline and stock isn't worth it. Ford uses 1050 Steel, which is ever so marginally weaker than aftermarket 1541.

As for the diff, save your cash and go Ford OEM. Eaton makes Ford's trac-lok. Just make sure you go for the Cobra/S197 version w/ the Carbon Fiber clutches.
