Default Switchblade/Flip keyless entry combo

Hey everybody i have a problem, i have an 03 mustang and ive been looking for a while for a flipout/switchblade aftermarket key and remote combo. I found an ebay store that sells a very good looking combo for the new mustangs, 05-09 and for pretty much every other Ford, its really nice but nothing for the 99-04, now i checked compatibility of the remote and im 99% positive the remote will program to my car because they make a switchblade for the 00-09 explorer and i can program my remote to an 05 sport trac and its remote to my mustang, the only thing that stands in my way is this- as you 99-04 owners know, on the ignition switch there is a trim piece that sticks out, the ebay store said that was the reason a flip key wont work, because the OEM key head fits into the trim and a flip fob wont, the key doesnt go in far enough. My question is, is that little trim around the ignition switch removable? if so, can it be put back on later?

Sorry for such a long thread, but i know someone will have taken that off before, lol
Thanks

it is a little bit of work but well worth it, to have one less key to carry, lol, does anyone know how to go about removing it safely?

Thanks
