Default popping noise while braking

just recently when i am driving my 98 mustang gt when i apply the brakes i will hear a popping noise and i can feel it slightly in the brake pedal, i took the wheels off and checked the brake calipers and they are not loose. it doesnt do it when my car is in park only when it is in drive. what could the problem be?

^x2 however I think he would experience the sound of failing ball joints throughout other parts of his drive, not just braking.

if the ball joints themselves are still good, then you just have to replace the ball joint boot and repack it with grease. if the joints are shot...then...might cost ya a bit for repairs. but look at it this way, gives you reason to upgrade the suspention!

boot torn open...grit and grime has worn the ball joint's moving parts...they arent that expensive...replace them.

Also check the slides where the pads move on the brackets, they should be lubed with slide lube. They may be sticking.
