Question 3RD gear grinding

So i have a 02 GT. manual. now i rarely drive it hard. so here is my problem, every time i do drive it hard my 3rd gear will grind only when its at a high rpm, even when the clutch is all the way open. i have to wait for the rpm to drop and easily move to 3rd. now this doesnt happen all the time, but most. it will some times even grind during normal driving.. if you guys have any input, it would be greatly appreciated..

thanks for your time
dan..

sounds like sinkros (spelling) to me. i had a buddys that did the same thing but it was his 2nd and 3rd gear that did it and it where his sinkros.

Def Synchros; do you know if the tranny had the synchros replaced under warranty. The 3650 had a TSB re: grinding issue into 3rd, especially when cold. Something about the materials used in the synchros and the way they were expanding at a different rate. I had mine done under warranty. There is also a nice mixture of tranny fluids used that helps smooth out the shifting. It was on this board and I think involved some Lucas or Amsoil mixed with some synthetic ATF.. If you don't have the Extended Warranty and want to put off the expensive rebuild at this point, I would change the fluid out and replace with the mixture recommended on the board and live with it for now... or take it in and have the synchros replaced and live with it... or pick up a rebuilt 3650 and throw it in (might be cheaper than the rebuild)

Yep like he said there is a TSB out for cars with the 3650 in years 01-04. If you still have a warranty go get it done asap. Also this would be a good time to learn to powershift

Fords gonna say : YOU NEED NEW TRANSMISSION. Let's just say the TKO-500 wasn't a planned modification.
