1999 Mustang Overview
The year 1999 marked the Mustang's 35th anniversary, and Ford reacted appropriately by freshening up the Mustang lineup. Most noticably, the new Mustang's bodywork was revised. The style was still based on the SN95 but now sported an edgier, more masculine look. The grill "corral" was re-introduced; the last Mustang to wear it was the 1973 model. Both the base and GT models wore "35th Anniversary" badges on the fenders.
The 35th Anniversary Limited Edition GT was added to the model lineup in 1999. This model sported a raised hood scoop, a black stripe running down the center of the hood, larger side scoops, a larger, unique spoiler, and a black honeycomb insert in the trunk lid. A new color, Performance Red, was made available only on the Limited Edition models.
The powertrain choices were significantly upgraded for 1999. The base model got a revised 3.8L V6 which now produced 193 horsepower at 5250 rpm and 225 ft-lbs of torque at 3000 rpm. The GT got an extensively upgraded SOHC 4.6L V8, with new heads, cams, and intake manifolds. The upgrades resulted in 260 horsepower at 5250 rpm and 302 ft-lbs of torque at 4000 rpm. The DOHC Cobra motor was advertised as having 320 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 317 ft-lbs of torque at 4750 rpm from the factory. In reality, however, the motor produced closer to 305 horsepower. Thus, Ford was forced to retrofit the Cobras with new intake manifolds, exhaust systems, and computer calibrations to make the advertised 320 horses.

You might be able to still call 800-FORDSVT can find out exactly what number car yours was built. Just need to give them you last 6 (i think) of the vin and they should be able to tell you if the FIX was done to the car and if any recalls where done.
