Default EGR Delete

OK, so my egr valve has gone bad, and has been bad for a couple weeks, 1 i am tired of the dang CEL light, and 2 i don't want to spend $50 to get a new one... so i was thinking what is all involved in the EGR delete? and would i need a tuner like sct or diablo to get ride of the pesky cel??

p.s. I hate emissions.. they suck

deleting it is fairly easy except for plugging the line from the driver side manifold.

There's 2 vacuum lines that run from the EGR pipe to a sensor on the back of the intake. Once you've deleted the pipe, Connect a spare bit of vacuum line (which you can harvest from the pipe) from one of its 2 inputs to the other. make a block off plate for the egr valve from thin sheet metal and use the EGR valve as a cap for it. Cover the thin piece with a very thin layer of black RTV and install it before it dries between the upper plenum and the egr valve. Connect all the vacuum and electrical connectors as normal. You'll need a tune change too.

It's harder than 50 bucks justifies. Just get the new valve. I'll see if I have one to spare.

The hardest part is removing the EGR tube from the driver side exhaust manifold. Then remove the EGR from the plenum and plug 1 vacum line. You can get an EGR delete kit from Randy for under $20. I know the sct tuner can turn off the EGR, and I’m sure the diablo can too.

that's the best way... just disable EGR in the tune. Then it doesn't matter if you remove the hardware.

r3d, will the egr be one of the reasons my mpg has taken a dump lately??
i cleaned my MAf and that helped for the first 100 miles then i pulled the egr code, and mpg dropped some..

i also this tank put some injector cleaner in.. what else can i try to see what i can pull the mpgs up??

I would really have to tear into it and pull plugs and sensors and such to diagnose it well. One thing could easily be the injectors clogged up a bit. Cleaner isn't going to help much. Never does. How many miles on them. Have you got a tune on the car that isn't stock?

One last sensor to check, the IAT sensor. It should be in the intake tube just up from the MAF. See if it's hella dirty.

jep. My EGR stuff is still installed... mostly. The valve and electronics are there. Just no tube.

It helps with emissions and mileage so when the EGR doenst work it hurts your mileage. Its why i still have a working egr system on my car.

good news, i found out why my egr was bad, and so was my a/c and heater. (would only blow out of defrost vents) I had a small vacuum leak, you know the lil red air pipes that go from the egr to the plenum, and also to the a/c one of those broke and vacuum leak.. fixed it and now all is good!@!

well it was my a/c didn't work, and so i followed all the lines behind the glove box to find where they went, and the only one i couldn't find was the black one.. popped the hood and there it was... the funny thing it.. it was such an obvious break, but on such a small thing it was hard to see unless you were looking for it.. and now i know where that red plug of tubes go!!
