Short throw shifter advice...

Ok guys, wanna swap my stock shifter for a short throw (02 gt)...

i had a 98 v6 that had a steeda short throw (not sure which one, .it was in when i got it), but i didn't really like it too much...seemed kinda clunky.

what's a good one to look for. lookin into a pro 5.0 or hurst...any opinions here?

All shifters will make shifting seem more clunkier compared to stock since the throw is shorter and there's not isolator in the stick. For me, it's Hurst FTW.

What is the advantage of the MGW over the others? smoothers? quieter? shorter throw?

gotMACH04 01-10-2008 09:08 PM

yes, yes, and yes
also more adjustability w/ the handle

i have a hurst. my car is an everyday driver and it does not bother me.

If you don't want to hear the tranny, a short throw shifter is not for you. If you don't want increased effort or notchiness (an inherent characteristic of TREMEC transmissions), a short throw shifter is not for you. However, if you drive your car the way it should (not like an "investment" but like a muscle car), then a short throw shifter is mandatory. As for advantages for the MGW vs. the others, the only advantage is it's adjustability. Otherwise, it has the same exact features as everyone else (adjustable neutral bias spring, shorter throw, shift stops, etc.). The reason why I went w/ Hurst is because I chose it w/ a different stick that would fit me better and also because nothing says muscle like a Hurst shifter in your car topped a/ a chrome stick and white ball.

I have a Tri-Ax and love it.

hurst here with the mgw blue handle. you cannot go wrong with a hurst in a mustang. its like peanut butter and jelly. it just goes together. as to my knowledge...my shifter has one of the shortest throws and ease to shift (from my experience with other similar mustang)
