Ok I bought my car 2 1/2 years ago. I bought it from my cousin thinking that he would have taken care of it, nope. a few months later I found out that I had no brake pads or shims. I took it to a shop that I trust and they replaced all the rotors pads and shims. All was good I thought. The next thing you know about 9 or 10 months later I was back and needed new front rotors again!! and a new brake booster! the rotors were under warrenty so it was free. Now I have felt that my brakes have been starting to go again! So yesterday I went to the shop and thinking it would just be front pads no problem they tell me need new front rotors AGAIN! and PADS AGAIN front and back pads. I ask them whats up with all these problems. They tell me they dont know why the rotors keep going but its free every time b/c the warrenty but i still pay labor.
ok so this is there proposed work Brake pads all 4 2 shim kits front rotors 2 brake hardware axle set kit Brake G lining/friction R brkae fliud flush refill machine rotors + Labor = 522.20 ok so does the price sound right. 2 wtf is with all these brake problems thanks for your help

personally i'd go to a different shop. there's no way ya should have gone thru that many rotors so quickly. unless you're just crazy hard on ur brakes.

What's wrong w/ the rotor, does it crack or warp? If it just warps, you may just get away w/ turning them (turning is around $10/rotor). Also, how many miles and how hard are you using everything? You may be pushing it w/ how hard you brake and glazing the rotor/pad. Are the parts they use reputable? It seems odd you need to replace everything so often. By the way, you may want to consider to do all this yourself to save on labor since brake jobs are extremely easy and the only special tools needed is something to catch the bled off brake fluid and the "socket" used to reset the rear caliper's piston.

stop paying people to fix the problem and fix the bloody problem yourself. Buy a complete brake kit like the easily available 400 dollar cobra kit. It's cheaper, cake to install, replaces all the same parts and it's a performance upgrade.
If you pay for someone else to do your brakes again I'm going to personally choke the chit out of you when I come down there. If all else fails I'll do your fuggin brakes. Now, go and buy a damned front cobra kit like I told you last time. I'll teach you how to do them or find someone down there that can. Seriously... this is exactly as hard as changing a tire. You can do it, in about an hour. Don't bother with the rears just yet. Pull off your rear wheels and take a close up photo looking down at your caliper/rotor set from the top (skinny aspect). You don't need to spend 500 bucks fixing a problem that ain't a problem. The problem is taking it to morons that put on CRAP brake parts.

get some cheap brakes that you know won't last very long while those are on buy some rims then when those **** out upgrade to the cobra kit. Problem solved

Cheap wheels and tires are on craigslist. You only need basic crap OEM 17" wheels.
don't make me drive down there... )

Well, then go and buy good stuff. OEM rotors (Brembo makes the Cobra ones), OEM or aftermarket pads (Hawk, EBC, and Satisfied are great brands), and then, install it yourself. Seriously, all you need to to is pop the wheel off, use a breaker bar to get the caliper mount bolts off, and then your pads and rotors just pop off. Use a c-clamp to push the piston back in or the "socket" for the rear, pop the new pads on, slide the new rotors on, torque everything down, and then throw on your wheels and your done. If you need to change the fluid, bleed the system from rear-right to rear-left to front-right, and then front-left until you see new fluid coming out of each one. If you are missing some tools, needle nose pliers are a good substitute for the "socket", a long bar attached to your socket wrench is probably better than a breaker bar but a c-clamp is kind of a must but you don't need something over the top for that.

i agree with r3dn3ck....do it yourself. if an unmechanically inclined idiot like myself can learn to do brakes, then so can you. taking stuff apart is easy for me, but getting it back together the same way is not easy....but once you do it a couple of times...it's not hard.
to hell with paying shops to do it. also don't buy cheap rotors and pads...you end up getting what you pay for. also if you're going through pads and rotors, you may have bad brake calipers....might be time to replace them. |

ok, if you are having to take it that many times, there is either something seriously wrong with the car or the shop...haha...i mean, i am hard on my brakes, and i still don't have to replace them but once a year...and that's not cause i have to, just to be safe. so i would definetly invest in something better. either parts or like r3dn3ck says, the cobra kit.
i don't know how to put that on, i heard it's fairly easy, but that's my next investment. but yeah, put better parts on, or take it somewhere else. the only choices you have. what kinda parts were they puttin on...do you have name brands. i used to work for a parts store so i could let ya know if they are decent or not!
